Do you have a virus scanner on your computer?
I concur with the previous poster: don't use IE. Use Firefox.

Well yeah, sometimes the old IE just does it well enough, firefox has its share of bugs.
anyways, what might help you is doing one of the following.. but do it on your on risk
1. reset ie setting, open up ie (internet explorer), press ALT-T on your keyboard, go to lowest option-internet options, go to advanced tab then on the bottom you have "reset", click it and ask to also delete personal data, you need to restart ie after that. read carefully that this will reset every configuration you have made, not talking about content like history or favorites though!
2. check which addons you downloaded intentionally or what not, go to programs tab in the same place advanced tab was (internet options) and click on "manage addons".
in there go to "toolbars and extension", select anything unfamiliar or that you do not want and click the "disable" button on the bottom right. do this for each object you find suspicous
Now, be aware that if you are a bit unfamiliar you might disable some stuff you do actually want, for example shockwave flash or adobe pdf link helper etc..
hope i could help!
I'll try that. Thanks.
