outside at night
the moon was so exactly half
i mean that line was just
exactly
straight half smooth

as beautiful as any rising full
was this setting half
the big dipper sitting
so entirely strange and low

and I realized how south I am
not stopping to realize
that much in so long

and I realized how very big and far you are
my mind holding you hugely
my spirit and what in me longs
for all that wonderment which
I myself am failing

talk to me night sky
frog in the gutter ditch
fast cricks in the air

talk to me straight line
falling so perfectly
the sound of pine
cutting night through mid air
