Glad it was won by a goal and didn't go to penalties. Not a fan of that method to decide a Championship.

100% true jimmy, never like those endings. Always thought if anything, return the golden goal or keep playing till someone scores the game winner. Last team standing always seems to be the better team.

Edit- what I ment about gden goal is that from the beginning, no extra time then golden goal. Straight up golden goal from the first overtime minute.

Agreed. The NHL playoffs are so awesome in part due to the sudden death, play until there is a winner overtime system. I understand maybe not wanting to utilize that during the round robin stage, but once the knockout round starts they should play till there is a winner. The penalties just feels so gimmicky.

I don't like the penalty kicks either, but you can't just let these guys play forever. Goals seem much harder to come by in the world cup than the NHL playoffs.

Maybe look at pulling a man from each side after each 15 minute extra time segment. Open up the field and increase the chance of a golden goal.

It is the most prestigious soccer tournament in the world and it is played once every four years. It should be decided by a goal on the field.

Yeah, I completely get what you're saying. I just don't know if there's a way to do it that makes sense. I highly doubt they would do the thing with pulling players, but who knows. FIFA doesn't seem very concerned about this. They have some other more pressing issues that they should be dealing with (flopping, concussions, Qatar World Cup)

Isn't 2018 in Russia? That could blow up on them at anytime, too.

Ya and if Qatar loses out, it comes to the states.

Are they building indoor stadiums in Qatar or are these poor guys expected to play in desert conditions?

No, sounds like they are thinking about having it in the winter, which will screw up all the European leagues.

Sounds like we have a legit shot at 2026. Some papers in the UK are already giving it to us. I would prefer 2026 for selfish reasons if so.

Yep, that whole Qatar thing is the biggest fucking joke. I was checking the weather in Qatar the other day and the high temp average around this time is 115-120 degrees. No way they can do this during the summer.

I hope that whole investigation they are doing shows how corrupt this whole thing was and they take the WC away and give it to a more deserving country.

Couple interesting friendlies here. Not sure what to think about the state of the team. The first was a disaster

Yeah, that 2nd half vs. Chile was really bad. Looked pretty solid yesterday. The goal from the corner by Bradley was unreal....love that guy.

Not to mention it was Chile's D team against more or less a similar team to our world cup squad. Really hate how many players we have in the MLS. Don't think we are going to be any good until we have more players overseas. Yedlin has a long ways to go, but getting burn for Tottenham will be huge.

Yeah, all these guys coming to MLS is not good. I know Jurgen hates it. I get it for an older guy like Dempsey who is getting near the end of his career, but I really can't see any positives for guys like Bradley and Altidore to be playing MLS at this point in their careers.
