A 7 song encore? Looks like this is a reflection of the crowd, or the band's displeasure with it. If you look at some shows, Grand Rapids, the 2nd encore is 7 songs alone.
    San Fran 92, San Fran 93, Berkeley 93, Indio 93, Fairfax 94, DC 95, San Fran 95, DC 95, Va Beach 98, Columbia 98, Dc 98, Va Beach 00, Columbia 00, Philly 03, Bristow 03, Chicago 06, Chicago 06, Dc 06, DC 08
  • Low Light is one of my favourite songs. I would have lost it had I been there, as I did at the Toronto show.
    Toronto '00, '02, '05, '06, '06, '09; Hamilton '05; Buffalo '10; TORONTO 2011 X 2!!

You're right about that and you'll find a lot more comments on the crowd in some of the other threads on the show.

  • i was there last night, and as ive said on other threads...the crowd did nothing wrong! if the crowd screwed up in any way it was during Baba O'Reilly.

The concert was only 5-10 mins shorter than Sydney 1...nothing to crap on about.

i just think when people dont get a setlist they like or a seat they like, they come on here and blame somebody...and the easiest people to blame are the audience.

Once again, the complainers can piss off!

One thing I read on some of the other posts were during "Baba", when Ed lets the crowd sing, "Don't Cry.....", nobody knew to do so. Now, PJ has been playing this cover for almost 10 years now, it's on the boots, etc.... I find this a disgrace that the audience didn't participate.

wow, disgrace is such a harsh word.....I can think of millions of more disgraceful occurances then an audience not singing along!

Halifax 05 2nd Encore was 9...and it is one of their best. In fact - Halifax had a main set of 16 and total encore of 14 :D

True, but perhaps the fact that the front row of the audience were the ones who were clueless makes this a bit tougher to swallow. I wish there was some type of video of Ed's face during this moment in "Baba".

The only thing I can relate this moment too is when you are at a sporting event and trying to start the wave, and you get no support whatsoever.

i sang along during the baba 'Dont cry..." bit, and i must admit no-one around me really did it, so i felt kinda stupid. which sucked balls. but for the most part the crowd were gettin into it around me up in section 20

I wasnt there so I dont have an opinion about the crowd other than what I have read.
Though while its true that you make your own fun, the crowd has much to do with the bands performance, the band feeds of the crowd, its an energy thing and I cant imagine the band giving their most energetic performance when Eddie felt the need to tell the crowd he felt like he was in church.

I havent seen anyone here bitch at the band for their performance but more bitching about the crowd and after 46 shows attended in 15 years I know for a fact that a good show with great energy depends a lot on the crowd as well as the band. Just my 2 cents though

Its not about singing every lyric of every song, no one spects that from everyone in attendance, Im sure that the people in Chile, Argentina and Brazil didnt all know every single song down to the p, BUT with that said, its about the cheering, dancing, jumping, etc.... dead crowd takes energy off the band... its just human... it like telling a joke, when no one laughs at your joke its awkard.

I can only imagine the reception this setlist would get in MSG, Seattle (Showbox) or the South. From all the fanviews, I think I would be completely exhausted before the Encores..........only to recover when the first note of Lowlight hits......

That is what made it such a bummer about the crowd. Back home in the states, that set list would have inspired crowd mayhem (and they did rock, they were trying so hard to get the crowd going).

I am really hoping the die hards show up for night #3. Since moving to Sydney I have been excited about these shows. Night #1 was great... Hopefully the crowd shows up for night 3. The die hards need to show up in force. We are gonna make show 3 work.

Right on. They don't have to know all the words. Just show some life and energy. I promise if they do, they will have more fun at the show. Who goes to a show and stands there. It is a concert, have some fun!

  • i left both shows with a saturated shirt, but when ur hardcore fans are interspersed with casual rock fans you are always going to have this problem. If any1 is to blame here it is the promoter. I could see alot of people around the venue rocking out and getting right into the concert, but they were on their own. I also think you would have seen a much better level of crowd participation last nite if the setlists from the 2 concerts were reversed. Show 1's setlist would appeal to the casual faqns alot more, as im sure show 2's setlist would appeal to the hardcore fans more, well this 1 neway.

You definitely shouldn't feel stupid about that. I was in kinda the same boat but decided I had to make up for the nonsingers around me by SCREAMING MY LUNGS OUT!!
LOL!! I actually heard my awful singing distinctly, which sort of shows how quiet it was around me.

I'd already choked and retched through Alive and Blood, by the time Baba and Indifference came around, I was reduced to a rasp. Still tried. Don't think much voice came out though.
