From what I understand it was about feeling out of place in the LA crowd - around the time everyone started to dress grungey, so he looks the same way as the LA folks, but feels far removed from it.
I think it's the opposite of "looking California".
I thought lots of PJ people would have seen it and noticed it!
I think looking California but feeling Minnesota means something like feeling very nerdy or insecure on the inside even though you don't look that way on the outside. :geek:
