  • Yes, I do. Though you may find it quicker via torrent.

I was there, right up front in the mess. I passed on the poster because I thought $14 was too much for a poster at the time. Years, later I paid dearly for that mistake. Though it would never have made it through the dust / mosh pit up front.

I loved seeing Cracker and MGB before the gates opened.

  • This show features a really great version of Black, with Ed lamenting over something at the end of it, during the fade.

pjbootlegs.org is great if you don't care about master recordings or lossless files.

It was an awesome show. You are right on it being a mess - huge pit - ahh the good old days. You were'nt one of the guys wearing the marking tape on there head were ya? I got lucky and had friends that didn't go up front and they held on to my poster for me(only one to get a poster, they all got t shirts), feel pretty lucky. Boot is great, closing with Ledbetter was amazing.
  • I was not one of the tape heads. Nope. I did manage to get right down front to the left of center stage. I bailed out after 6 songs, climbed up to the monitor feed stage and walked off. Ended up right in front of the soundboard and enjoyed the show much better...the sound there is perfect (at any show).

I was right up front against the barrier between Stone and Ed, and the next day my torso looked like it had been trampled on...definitely quite the experience. Thankfully I was also at the '98 Montreal show so was able to purchase the poster there. I seem to recall Animal and Brain of J were personal highlights from the show, as was MFC->Habit->Wishlist not to mention Do The Evolution with the video premiering behind the band as they played. I didn't even realize the "man" trilogy was played until I just took another look at the setlist.

  • Pacer, we've been going to the same shows for 2 decades now, it seems.

I didn't enjoy hearing the girls scream for help because they were being trampled. The video premiere was really cool...and at that point DTE was NOT overplayed.

Ed kicked a football into the audience during Corduroy too, right?

So it seems, it's unfortunate we're just realizing all this now.

There might have been one or two shorter girls around the people I was clustered with right up front (still don't know how I managed to pull it off and stay there for the entire show, people around me were collapsing and begging to get pulled out) but we were able to take care of them. I enjoyed the contrast between the Montreal arena show a couple of nights prior and the outdoor general admission vibe of the Barrie show but thankfully the Barrie show was the first and last time I did a general admission show (in the pit anyway).

I remember that show very well for it being way back in 98. I was up at the front, too. Almost dead centre, just a bit off to Stones side. I brought in a disposable camera and actually got some good pics from it. One of the pictures I took was a shot behind me of the pit and when I got them developed I counted 3 different guys with bloody noses in the shot

It was a crazy crowd. I remember there being a lot of guys older than me there. It worked to my advantage to get up to the front but in the end, I couldn't handle the chaos for the whole show and remember pulling myself up and over the railing towards the end of the show.

  • Looks like it was a BRY pre-renunion for us three before BRY was a thing.

I have the SHN source, and I believe a remaster of that source. (Allen might have had his part in that one, possibly.) I have every known recording that has been circulated beyond 12 people at any point in time.

There is a video of this entire concert, but so far I have not been able to get my hands on it.

    Recording Notes:

    Quality: Tracks 1-2,5-8 B, Tracks 3-4 C

This is the first show I taped. Unfortunately, I turned on the wind protection on the mic just before track 3 and off just a few seconds into track 5. This makes the sound extremely overdriven. It is exacerbated by the type of guitar sound made during track 4. I have not corrected this to avoid over processing the sound. Volume has been adjusted to smooth out the jumps caused by the wind protection. Luckily track 8 is recorded quite well (given the equipment) and has preserved the intensity of the performance. You can hear my buddies talking during the breaks between songs.

Volume has been adjusted correct low left track level. Audience clapping sometimes causes clipping. I did not correct this. You can hear my buddies talking during the breaks between songs.

Feel free to distribute, but only in lossless format. Ensure all copies are accompanied by this text file. It would be nice to see this packaged with the Cheap Trick and Pearl Jam sets (including soundcheck) someday. Maybe even the sets by All Systems Go and Cracker, although I did not think they were very good. It would be great to get all these together and issue it as SVXXX from BlackRedYellow.com. Would love to get a copy of that 3rd one. I don't see a 3rd listed over @ db.etree.org.

That would be awesome to find & share via the trading community. A copy of Barrie '98 DVD.

    I'd like this as well.
I had free tix from Sony but went to a Newfie wedding instead.
Ended up in Molson park the next day for some fest that included Garbage and the Chemical Brothers. I was super hung over.
I wanna see what I missed the day before
That I no longer give a fuck
Who is wrong and who’s right
  • This was my 1st show. I was there with my (new) wife, so we stayed up on the grass, away from the "mess." I still remember the cloud of dust that rose up from the pit when they came out.
I also remember a douchey Matthew Good getting indignant that his side stage audience wasn't rowdy enough for his taste. "This isn't a f###ing Carpenters show!" or something very close to that was his complaint. It took me a while to get over that, every time I saw him, or heard his music, I thought: that's the douche that thought a bunch of PJ fans should have been excited to see him!
The other memory I have is, walking into the park hearing TOTD, really loud. (Testing the sound system or something?) If I remember right, this was shortly after Matt joined, and i was thinking: Holy Crap! It's a TOTD reunion!
    Nope.

    Still a great show.
And I've been to everyone I could since.

I was there too, it was my first big concert. Needless to say it was an amazing show. The pit was absolutely insane,

I have an mp3 sourced show that I would be willing to share, can we figure out which copy is the best copy around? And what about the video, I have heard of people having a copy but I don't think its been widely circulated. Does anyone have it?
  • southpsouthp Posts: 299
I loved Barrie '98. I was right up at the barrier, somewhere between Ed and Stone. Back in the day I could survive any pit, but that one was particularly crazy - so much so, that after RVM I remember praying for a slower song right before they slammed into Last Exit.

Anyways, for years there was talk of this elusive video. I doubt it'll ever see the light of day. If only Rick the Temp could get the rest of that proshot footage from Much!
  • I remember there being a soundcheck, too. I can't recall what they played, though.

Nice to have stumbled across some discussion of this show! My first show too and it's still one of the greatest days of my life (my 20th birthday!)... I would give my left (and probably right) nut to see a video of the show. I too have heard that a video exists but I don't think we'll ever see it . . . the only video I have seen is this clip from Much Music up on YT of about 40 seconds of Animal:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3alA4Vd3xY . . . it's better than nothing for sure!

So many memories from the day . . driving up from my buddy's cottage near Peterborough that morning, finding a shitty little "camp ground" to pitch our tents for the day/night, drinking ourselves silly before hailing a few cabs for the 8 of us to get to the Park . . . getting out of the cab just off the highway due to traffic and walking down the long road to the venue, seeing Rick The Temp in a truck along Bayview Dr. (road that Molson Park was on) and saying hi to him ("I'll see you guys in there!" he replied), before getting in and having a few more beers before the show, pushing our way through the crazy crowd to try and get close as the show was about to start, then immediately losing most of my friends because of the crazy pit once Corduroy started, trying to hold on in desperation to one buddy so I wouldn't lose him as Hail Hail and Animal tore on, then finally losing him and spending the rest of the show alone (but still having a blast), and moving back towards to soundboard a bit and out of the pit to enjoy the show more before moving back in towards the end of the show, and finally, after meeting my buddies at our meeting place, walking to the McDonald's along Fairview Rd., covered in dust and hungry and thirsty as anything to satisfy my thirst and hunger with a greasy value meal..... so much fun. Phew!!!! . . . amazing time. Still think of it often and wish I could relive it sometimes.

Loved Eddie's doomsday speech, kicking a football into the crowd (which I vaguely remember) which was AFTER Anmial and before Dissident while he addressed the crowd, his awesome Leatherman ramble and awesome versions of Corduroy, Black, the man trilogy, Immortality and so many others...... having the boot is a blessing, but a video would be golden.

Also, I have heard TWO different crowd recorded versions, one of which is much better than the other. The first one I ever got was missing MFC and had a lot of chatter in it (especially during Nothingman as the recorders move through the crowd). Had a guy named Tommy there for sure, as they say his name a few times. The second one has little to no chatter, MFC is included, and the sound quality is slightly better. Although interestingly enough, I think the recorders were very close to one another because I swear that during the "speaking as...." of Habit you can hear the same girl screaming, just from different distances. What about a 3rd one?

Anyways, for years there was talk of this elusive video. I doubt it'll ever see the light of day. If only Rick the Temp could get the rest of that proshot footage from Much!

I actually e-mailed Rick many years ago asking if there way any way MM could release it, or if we could buy it etc. He said no way. It's probably staying locked up forever.

I just came back home from a few shows of 2024 tour ….  The guys are still pretty fucking rocking.
DTE video played during 2024 has different visual or so… the visuals changed from one show to another.

Anyways…. This morning I told my self: is Barrie 1998 video finally available… but it isn’t.

And the best thing I found again was this thread  from a while back that I had already red.

Although… Not sure what bootleg version I have… it sounds pretty ok but we can hear some people from time to time. But I cant  complain.

pit was madness for sure !! Loved it. My first PJ show. I regret not buying the poster… but it would had been destroyed in the pit 🤣.

i bought the soccer jersey and the bin hat. Still have the jersey. Love it.

So… how do I know what source do I have ?

btw: that day I discover Hayden … and fucking loved it. Still listen to ir. Too bad his not doing any big tour or something

    cheers ! \m/
