PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) — A Pakistani doctor who helped the U.S. track down Osama bin Laden was sentenced to 33 years in prison on Wednesday for conspiring against the state, officials said, a verdict that is likely to further strain the country's relationship with Washington.

Shakil Afridi ran a vaccination program for the CIA to collect DNA and verify bin Laden's presence at the compound in the town of Abbottabad where U.S. commandos killed the al-Qaida chief last May in a unilateral raid. The operation outraged Pakistani officials, who portrayed it as an act of treachery by a supposed ally.

You would think Pakistan would be more concerned with rounding up all the people who hid and protected him for all these years.

In other news the Senate just approved a 1 billion dollar aid package for Pakistan in 2013 which follows Australia giving them 200mm just a few days ago.

so the pakistani govt arent/werent at all concerned that bin laden was hiding in their country?? this country is not our friend and we need to stop behaving like they are... oh i know.. i know... we dont really see them as friends... theyre more a convenience for now.. and we will, when pakistan has outlived its usefulness, turn our backs on them. but in the mean time well continue to give them aid that they will continue to so gratefully take whilst giving us the finger. hilarious... NOT.

Pakistan backed the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan back in the 90's.

According to wiki leaks one of the main reasons we were never able to locate him was that Pakistani security services tipped him off whenever US troops approached.

This conviction shows exactly where Pakistan stands on this issue. It's basically an endorsement of Bin Laden and his actions and is deplorable.
The only people we should try to get even with...
    ...are those who've helped us.

What a disgrace. :x I cant believe the CIA and the Military let this happen. They should have gotten him and his family the hell out of there and brought them here the minute they got OBL. I mean did not think this man wouldn't be caught somehow ? Now no one is going to want to help us . The betrayal this man must feel..

A pakistani national helped a foreign country in the planning of an attack on his own country
    To me that is treason
Sure it was to assist in the killing f Osama
    But it still was treason

It would be rather ironic if the wiki leaks info came from Bradley Manning.
  • how could he be convicted of a crime that resulted in the death of a man who is still alive? he just made my Fat Boy at Junior's.
