If Limp Bizkit are 'underrated', what does that make Billy Corgan and The Smashing Pumpkins?

Well, everybody has their own opinion, I always found them overrated myself. I'm assuming Billy means now, as opposed to how popular they used to be. These days Limp Bizkit, or more specifically Fred Durst, are more of a punchline than anything. But there was a time when Limp Bizkit were the kings, a time I'm guessing Billy isn't referring to. Back in the late 90's and early 00's you couldn't escape Limp Bizkit. After all, their third album had a better first week in album sales than Vs, which once held the record for best first week album sales. It sold, 1.05 million in the first week, where the record set by Vs was 950 thousand plus change. It didn't take the record because between Vs and Limp Bizkit, Garth Brooks had broken the record with 1.08 million copies of his live album.

So I don't really think they were underrated in their heyday, people just got over them I guess. I know several people who liked them back in the day who will not admit it now.

Wasn't Fred Durst supposed to be on a sitcom called, Douchebag?

i bought 3 dollar bill y'all the day it came out. Counterfeit helped me through my anger phase, and it wasnt' that bad of an album...that being said, fred durst turned into a douche when he got rich, and his music suffered.

Doesn't Vs. still sorta hold some record b/c of some change in the way album sales were tallied? I remember reading something, like it was pre-Soundscan or something like that.

It may still hold some record, but I don't think it's because of it coming out before Soundscan. According to a Google search Soundscan has been in used since March of 1991.

    I believe so.

In all seriousness, I really think he is fucking with the media. I have watched videos where he said he enjoys fucking with them. Years back I saw a video of him talking with his own crowd for a solid ten minutes and he was totally fucking with them because one guy was being a dick. Not the usual yelling at the crowd, pissed off kind. He was just dragging on a conversation just to piss them off a bit.

Yeah, I get the impression he likes fucking with people. I don't follow them that much (other than listening to some of their music) and don't know much about what Billy is like. But I saw Smashing Pumpkins open for The Rolling Stones back in '97 and at the end of the Pumpkins set everybody left the stage except Billy, he walked around for a little bit swinging his guitar like he was about to smash it, getting the crowd all excited, then he goes for the smash and just sets it down in a guitar stand and walks off stage. At the time I thought it was kind of lame, but in hindsight I think the reaction of myself and everybody around who went from "Hell Yeah!!!" to "Wait... what the fuck just happened?" was pretty funny.
