a couple months later i heard this song Red Rain and couldn't believe it was on that album.....bought the album AGAIN and wondered what was it that i didn't like about the album. He gave a very emotional show at the Capital Centre in Landover MD of which tickets were SO hard to get. I was first in line back when you waited in line for tickets at department stores.
Here's a bit on the Peter Gabriel Live 2011 click on the song you want to hear.
http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/peter-gab ... 3ea7b.html
Some of the songs have been taken down though.
Peace
*MUSIC IS the expression of EMOTION.....and that POLITICS IS merely the DECOY of PERCEPTION*
.....song_Music & Politics....Michael Franti
*The scientists of today think deeply instead of clearly. One must be sane to think clearly, but one can think deeply and be quite INSANE*....Nikola Tesla(a man who shaped our world of electricity with his futuristic inventions)
for lay your hands on me he would fall back onto the crowd and would be passed around, this was the last tour he did that. first done security(rhythm of the heat) tour(1982) and this is way before moshing existed. for a better part of the show we were seated until just before lay your hands on me. his lights were so awesome for that SO tour, basic but cool(on wheels-that went high and low, up close and far away)
this was my first exposure to youssou n'dour as his band opened. i've been a fan of his ever since.
this classic album came out at a time when music wasn't that great(imo). i remember first hearing sledgehammer and thinking "WOW there is absolutely nothing like this today". it was a breath of fresh air and imo this cd was in a league of its own back then. i still am a old genesis fan and was on board with every peter solo cd, even the new stuff. this was such a huge peak of my musical journey. and certainly, after new blood's sleepyness, i'm really pumped for this tour.
here's SO's track list
1. Red Rain
2. Sledgehammer
3. Don't Give Up
4. That Voice Again
5. Mercy Street
6. Big Time
7. We Do What We're Told (Milgram's 37)
8. This Is The Picture (Excellent Birds)
9. In Your Eyes
All that I once held as true
I stand alone without beliefs
The only truth I know is you.
I saw him on tour in... 1993? "Us" tour. Yes, back in the era of waiting in line, paying cash for tickets, etc. It was a heck of a show. I've loved his music for longer than I care to admit. "Solsbury Hill" lifts my spirits like few songs can, and "Games Without Frontiers" is one of my all-time favorites.
1993 or 1994 was WOMAD, too. My (now)husband and I stood in one spot all day watching bands (ZIggy Marley, Crowded House, Stereo MCs, finally Peter Gabriel), waiting for Peter Gabriel. Now that I think about it, we were really close to the stage, maybe five people back. I remember the crowd at the other side of the stage was getting rowdy, and Peter Gabriel stopped the show and talked to the crowd about being safe and having some respect for each other.
It's funny to think that we did that -- stood rooted to that spot for hours -- and now I think about the Festival in Philly in September and cringe. Ah, youth....
Tempted to trek up to Santa Barbara for this tour.

Focusing on the entirety of that multi-platinum album, the tour, entitled BACK TO FRONT, will feature Gabriel with many of the members of the original band he toured with 25 years ago and will feature the album's songs from start to finish plus some of his other biggest hits."

A single CD expanded to an 8-disc box set? Impossible for most artists--but Peter Gabriel isn't like most people. When he decided to release a 25th anniversary edition of So, he wanted to do it up right.
Here's what we'll get for $147 USD on October 23.
Disc 1: Remastered edition of So.
Discs 2 and 3: Re-edited Live in Athens 1987, which appears to be another version of the concert film PoV, which was produced by Martin Scorcese.
Disc 4: So DNA, described as “a unique insight into the writing and recording of So, experienced via a track-by-track evolutionary process leading you from the early moments when rhythms, melodies and lyrical ideas were discovered through the various stages of song development and recording.”
Disc 5: Live in Athens 1987 DVD. Amazon says “This was the first filmed Peter Gabriel concert, now fully restored and pieced together from over 150 reels of original 35mm negatives and remixed in 5.1, this concert is made available for the first time on DVD.”
Disc 5: So: Classic Albums documentary DVD which “features contributions from many of those involved in the album and videos, with interviews with Peter Gabriel, co-producer Daniel Lanois and many more.”
Disc 6: Vinyl , actually. It's So on 180-gram vinyl “mastered at half speed to maximize the audio quality and the track listing, unlike the original, is that favoured by the artist.”
Discs 7 and 8: Double A-side 12-inch vinyl single featuring two previously unreleased tracks, “Courage” and “Sagrada” along with an alternative piano mix of “Don’t Give Up.”
Finally, a 60-page book with text and photographs.
Awesome. I actually managed to win tickets to go see him in Toronto. I will be in Section 101, Row 23. Nowhere near as close as you, but I didn't pay a dollar for the tickets, so I can't complain. I am looking forward for this concert.
it would be a little disappointing to not have him involved in this(in your eyes)
some other tidbits on So
1) tour promoted as SO LIVE back to front...maybe he is starting with in your eyes or this is the picture and ending with red rain? i can only assume
2) Gabriel's second album produced by Daniel Lanois.
3) wonder how he handles "don't give up" wish kate bush was there for that! maybe his daughter?
4) We Do What We're Told (Milgram's 37) first heard this on a very old bootleg record. such a cool song/concept http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milgram_Experiment
5) it will be good to see tony levin and david rhodes again!
6) next month !!! can't wait !!!!
Congrats. It's always great to win free tix... even better when it's a show as good as Peter Gabriel. In the last year I've won free tix to, Ziggy Marley, The Wailers, Sublime w Rome, Paul Weller, and this saturday Johnny Winter and Edgar Winter. Enjoy!!!
