i can't view the video at work, but my question is who was the first, or who were the previous, socialist president(s)?

interesting that you put it that way

he says that each and every president is more socialist than the last. No person has really ever shrank the size of government while in office...the scope and power of the executive office has always continued to grow. The branches of government have continued to grow...from start to finish, I don't know if any president as shrank the size of government or offered less new departments and programs.

So it isn't really calling anyone in particular a true socialist, but more along the lines of saying that all of them are more socialist than the last...if you define it simply as an ever growing government (which is a VERY rudimentary definition)...interesting thoughts to flush out though that is for sure...

well the title said "the next" which implies to me that there has been one or many socialist presidents in the past. i can not think of any true socialist president. there have been populist ones, but populism and socialism are not one in the same.

again i could not view the video so i do not know all of what it entails.

it is interesting to think about though. was this person basing only size and scope of government and number of departements, etc, in his definisiton of socialism?

i dunno, i don't have an issue with a certain level of socialism. i think it has something to do with the whole me being a part of a complex society and that i am supposed to be my brother's keeper or something..

i do not think that any president will ever "shrink the federal governmnt". it is a good campaign slogan, but i think to your average american we are worried about how we are going to afford food and groceries rather than the evils of the department of education etc...

an interesting thing he talks about is that if Obama had done everything bush did as though bush had not existed, he would have been called the most socialist president we have ever had...

an interesting quote from the end..."the worst thing that can happen in 2012 is Obama winning another term...except maybe for a republican to win, governing just like him, and calling it conservatism"...

but socialism really is thrown about haphazardly. populist is probably a better way to put it. More people being "taken care of" now than ever before leads me to believe that there is definitely some socialism in the works... But like any other -ism we have in America, they all get bastardized to serve the needs of the wealthy...

as to your last point...it is sad that most Americans don't realize that the two are very much related...
