So yeah I am a John Butler Fan...for me to really like music I need to love the music itself...believe the message...and be inspired by the artist...who they are and how they live their life.
Besides John, Ben Harper and Eddie I dont have too many others that do it for me in all three areas...
Anyway you dont have to be a fan to have a say in this thread...I, or anyone else that wants to, will post some JBT performances...you can watch and give your review...
Music is so subjective so if you dont like it...say that...no offense taken...let me know what you really think
This is an instrumental tune called Oceans

I agree with you, Eddie, Ben and John, all very similar with where they are coming from with their music.
Check out the version of ocean from the max sessions at Sydney opera house 2004, one of the best things you will ever watch.
Here is the version you mentioned...and yes it is incredible...and its much shorter than the other in case anyone saw the length of the first version and decided they didnt have time to watch it all

Then I figured out it was JBT, "What You Want." Remains one of my fav songs to this day, never been removed from the iPod Shuffle....
So I bought Sunrise Over Seas and just knocked me out, fantastic album. Loved his electrified acoustic sound, blending the mic'd acoustic sound with that Marshall amp back there, getting the feedback all blended in so sweet. Just an amazing sound. That's really what hooked me -- his layered guitar sound.
But his lyrics were awesome, the arrangements just stunning -- just great music. But he was always playing festivals in the Bay Area, shows I couldn't or wouldn't make the effort for, so it took me quite some time to catch him live, four years....
But soooo worth the wait, here's the review:

Don't have his last 2 albums yet, the show boot is in constant rotation though, JBT should open for Pearl Jam! I've constantly put JBT down in the forums as "Bands I'd Recommend" around here. I'm surprised he and Eddie have never crossed paths, at least that's been talked about, so many common elements between them.
For that matter, don't have his first record either, Three. Just Sunrise and Grand National, but both are in heavy rotation. The new stuff (in 2010) didn't click with me as much as Sunrise, and at first I was bummed that he was changing up his bandmates so much -- some misguided internalization by me that "Oh, now he's big, he's ditching the folks that helped get him there!" But his explanations ring true, pick the right musicians for the right mood and what not -- and his old mates all had other projects they returned to.
Regardless of all that, he is a phenomenal live act -- all those years of busking I'd say, so comfortable and open and honest. Just a good, good soul, great vibe, definitely in that Jack Johnson mold of awareness, more so even. And a good dose of Marley, Matthews, Snoop!!! hehehe.
Hope he brings the Tin Shed to the States!

Been listening to it a lot as well.
JBT opening for Pearl Jam would be so awesome...
John Butler used to play regularly at the Jetty Hotel near where I grew up back in the mid ninetees...it was like ten bucks to see him, I think even free a few times...he did a lot of instrumentals...even then he was incredible live...then he got big...it was so cool to see
even cooler to see his fame hasnt changed him even the slightest bit...and mckay, I will take your advice and get on to it today!

Here is one dedicated to my bestest 10c friend...check the white boy in the background...despite not removing his hands from his pockets, he still manages to get a pretty funky white boy groove going

hehehe, it cracks me up...first the left hand goes...then the left leg...then both legs...then the hips and shoulders, and then the head gets in on it too...

Thanks so much, that is very very cool...have watched it atleast half a dozen times
Saw JBT last on his April Uprising tour in 2011 and, despite having the most fantastic time, really missed seeing him play the lap steel guitar
