it will be interesting now that only 1 member of the group is living, if the group starts to get more recognized. On the hipster indie blogs today, many have covered the death of Robin. Not the typical band one associates with indie types. I think part of the "shame" of listening to the Bee Gees would be that much of the disco era is derided and made fun of. But, as im an absolute sucker for a catchy tune, the Bee Gees were insanely talented and could craft and write some great songs. I dont believe in guilty pleasures.

I agree with you. The Bee Gees were great at their craft. Genre boundaries are something that I think limit a lot of music listeners.

Having said that, I have heard some Bee Gees songs that I didn't dislike, but admittedly I am not a huge fan. I don't own any of their work, but I've listened to their record Trafalgar and it's a worthy mention.

Don't forget that their disco era defined only half their career. Before that they were much more psych/pop/soul oriented and were seen as sell outs by a lot of people from the haight/ashbury scene once Saturday Night Fever came out. Very dynamic group.
