I met Karen through a friend that does work for a charity that helps sick kids through music. She is in a contest on Facebook so if you could please go vote for her. http://www.facebook.com/events/335109419886550/
Here is her story:
I am currently in the running for an opportunity of a lifetime: The National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association is giving away three fully equipped modified mini vans for National Mobility Month in May.
Hi! I'm Karen DeVault, 27 yrs, and I have been extra ordinarily able for over 14 yrs.
To start, I am a C5/6 Quadriplegic due to a diving injury when I was 13 yrs young. My normal is your abnormal and that's pretty normal to me. Outside of school, I work for a children's non-profit as a grant writer and administrative assistant. As a power wheelchair user, I see life in waves of colour. Sometimes my colorful vision is limited by lack of accessibility throughout metro Atlanta. Thus, the reason I volunteer for PEDS. Accessibility and Pedestrian safety is important to all, walking or rolling.
I recently shot a video for a contest to raise awareness for National Mobility Month in May. The prize is a fully equipped modified mini-van that I could drive *independently. Since moving to Atlanta on my own 5 years ago, I have not been able to visit my family as frequently as I would like, and despite the 5 hr drive from the Gulf Coast to Atlanta, trying to travel with the necessary medical equipment is logistically impossible. Winning a van would make the world more accessible and indescribably change my life. The cards I’ve been dealt are not ideal, but I play like a winner!
So, I'm asking - me, you, and everyone we know to vote, share and help me win the opportunity of a lifetime.
Sincerely,
Karen DeVault"
She is very active in the Songs for kids Foundation. http://www.songsforkidsfoundation.org/
