The man was innocent, what should be done to the prosecutors?

they should have every single one of their capital cases that they have worked on investigated. and their conduct should be investigated as well.

for this episode alone they should be disbarred and tried for murder.

if you are going to try for the death penalty you had best make sure that you have the right fucking man.

The prosecutors are not at fault, though I'm sure they feel bad about it. It's the system that trains them and pressures them into sometimes over zealous prosecutions. It's the system that failed, not the attorneys.

it is the prosecutor's responsibility to know better. it is their responsibility to prove that they got the right man, and in this case they proved that the wrong man committed the crime. the conviction was based on lies.

It disgusts me as well, the system disgusts me that over burdens prosecutors and public defenders with high case loads and lack of resources to perform proper investigations and invest an adequate amount of time that each case deserves. Trust me, it's a shit system.

just by reading the article alone, it doesn't sound as if the prosecutors commited any wrongdoing, it was the police. it sounds to me like the prosecutors just did their job. and the guy's defense attorney must have been HORRIBLE.

You damn right it wasn't right....does anybody out think this is the only case where an innocent person was sent to their death?

Maybe this would all be different if in this case they would have been more of an uproar IF the accused were white. ;)

That was very tough to read.

Not the defense attorney's fault either especially if it were public defenders who again are often over worked and lack resources. It's very easy for Columbia Law review to sit in it's lofty position and use computers to analyze evidence and hire private investigators, who probably with state of the art resources, are able to go back in time and say what should have.

Columbia law school rips off it's students on a daily basis with tuition and fabricated stats about promises of employment with their law degree which can cause a mass of financial societal problems as well. I'm against the death penalty for financial bias in the system; so I really don't need some pompous law review sitting up on a safe hill to tell me it's wrong.

The blame should probably be placed on the jury which again goes back to the system.

I'm guessing it's unlikely anything can or will be done about this case but if even just one person responsible for this travesty would see the horrible error and come out against capital punishment at least something good would come out of this.

All I can do is hope with the new forensic technology mistakes will not be made now
    or in the future ...

because mistakes like this are unforgivable.

I hope to see capital punishment abolished in my lifetime ...
sadly that probably will not happen.

Even when they get the right person, the death penalty is just plain wrong, in my opinion.

Why anyone thinks that State-sanctioned revenge murder is OK is beyond me.

I totally agree. Of course you know, know1, this will lead to another 50 page discussion on capital punishment. I'd better just let it go... and get to work!

All i would like to know is what the response is to an innocent man being on death row and then being executed for something he didn't do?

I'm a death penalty supporter but I am moved by this story. Some sort of reform is needed it seems.

I too was a supporter but the financial issues in the legal system chnanged my mind. I don't believe a persons life or death should be dependent the quality of their representation.

I think it should be abolished it is barbaric but I think these incidents, I hope at least,
will soon be over with the new technology we have now.
That the right person will face death but it still doesn't make it right.

Look up 'Cameron Todd Willingham'. Some poor guy who was executed in Texas for a fire that was caused by a heater.
A completely innocent man... charged and convicted as an arsonist/murderer... whose little girls were killed by a fire... that was a fucking accident.

Maybe our form of civilization is more like ancient Rome. Kind of like Lou Reed put it in "Romeo Had Juliette":

"I'll take Manhattan in a garbage bag
with Latin written on it that says
'it's hard to give a shit these days'
    Manhattan's sinking like a rock
into the filthy Hudson what a shock
they wrote a book about it
they said it was like ancient Rome"

If he was indeed innocent, this could possibly be the worst nightmare I can think of...your children dying, then they kill you too?! I cant imagine what it would've been like to be in that man's shoes.

Rick Perry called off the arson investigation so they could rush him to his execution.
