  • My father in law supports YOUR cauase, as a matter of fact, and he's nearly 80 years old.

Just because someone hangs from a tree with a few bad apples doesn't mean the tree or all the other apples are rotten.

Ok for the record, I don't ACTUALLY think that all Catholics should be in jail and was intentionally trying to lay it on a bit thick for dramatic affect. My real point was that although I do give Mormons a zero-tolerance rule, many religions have some pretty messed up things in them AND that it's not fair to - as I do - suggest that all Mormons are this or all Catholics are that. Belief in a certain religion doesn't really mean you go along with the corrupt corporation that has taken over your church at the higher levels.

Huge religions that span centuries and rule countries tend to become tax-exempt corporations. And they become corrupt. While I know that. Mormons take the tax-free money they're given and use it for questionable purposes like flying their young men around the world to go door-to-door trying to convince people to join their religion or funding political campaigns that have nothing to do with their religions. Or, as I mentioned before, building castles for themselves.

It's been very well documented and proven that the Catholic church knew for many decades about sexual abuse of children and their response was to move the offending priests around, ex-communicate the victims and their families and hire lawyers to defend the abusers. That was all done with tax-exempt "donations" that given by the members.

While the Catholic church does this, they also very publicly have threatened their members who don't openly attack the gay community AND they have had the nerve to put out press releases saying that allowing gay marriage would lead to child abuse.

To which I say in my stand up comedy, "If the Catholics were that worried about child abuse, don't you think they'd just close?" And that joke always get hoot and cheers.

But I know that the vast majority of the actual members of the church are just as anti-child abuse as your average citizen and if my attempt at sarcasm didn't come through in that previous post, I do apologize. (and I don't do that often so remember this moment)

(I should also point out that my husband comes from a Catholic family that accepted me no-questions-asked when he came out by bringing me to Easter dinner and that my sister's husband's family threw a HUGE wedding for his sister and her wife... they all treated it like they would any other wedding. And every poll has shown that of all the main-stream religions, Catholics have one of the highest percentage supports of marriage equality. So there.)
  • Oh, and my other point which was, I guess, pretty clumsily-made, is that our society sexualizes children at a horrifyingly young age. We see 6 year-old girls in booty shorts, we see 8 year-old girls wearing string bikinis and we see 4 year-old girls walking around in high heels and makeup and blowing kisses at the "judges" of those mortifying pageants.

There was actually a website that did a count-down until the Olsen twins were "no longer jail bait" that listed what states it would be legal to have sex with them.

I still remember seeing some boy band on The Today Show where the guys were all about 14-17 and they were dancing around like strippers, grabbing their crotches and thrusting their pelvises at the audience. Two of them were shirtless. It was... creepy.

I feel like mainstream society encourages people to think of children as sexual fodder. So it's not too surprising that so many people are pulled in by it.

being born and raised catholic i guess i should be offended at what PoD has said...but since it's 100% accurate i'm not

and if those psychotic mothers that dress their 6 year old up like hookers don't think men are recording those shows and jerking off to their children then they're beyond help and their children should be taken away from them and they should be fixed
  • And besides... with your example, I would have to have some part in drug trafficking.

whethere my example was accurate or not, what you said above is exactly the point I was making.

I don't understand why you do this, though. you intentionally are stirring the pot when all you have to do is make your point. you deliberately said something completely contradictory to what you actually believe to get a reaction.

you do know what that is called around here, don't you?

Well except it's not completely contradictory to what I believe, just taking things to extremes. But I do think that people need to clean their own backyards before they throw stones into anyone else's. And yes, I can be guilty of that too.

And I also do think the pope and many in the leadership positions in the catholic church should be in jail for what they've done and helped to hide.
