My appreciation for this has really snow balled. I don't do back to back listening too often, but there are fewer and fewer albums between Blunderbuss sessions. I liked it at first but this one has grown on me so much. Thought it was kinda front loaded but the back end just keeps getting better and better
Favorite track might be Take Me With You When You Go...Cool track with some real surprises in the arrangement. Do the piano breaks remind anybody else of The Who?
Hip Eponymous Poorboy is too freaking catchy.
Love the whole package of I'm Shakin', especially the "and I'm noi-vous" and the background vox.
Freedom at 21 with the drumming from the Hang You From the Heavens break
Too much to mention with Sixteen Saltines.
The old timey, black man blues voice in I Guess I Should Go To Sleep

Love when that guitar comes in on 'Take Me With You When You Go'

I totally agree with everything you said except my favorite Sixteen Saltines. At first I though this album was good but not what everyone was expecting but the more I hear it, the more I like it .

PEARL JAM- 12/6/13 I have finally seen Pearl Jam live!
I've pretty much listened to at least a couple songs off the album every day since it's been released. My favorite is 'Weep Themselves to Sleep' with the dual guitar solo that sounds wicked with headphones on. However I think after watching a couple of his live show streams, the live songs are a little heavy on the pedal steel for my liking. Not that I would turn down an opportunity to see him again though.

I added them into the album so that the b-sides follow the a-sides.
It really makes the album even that much better

Thanks, I downloaded these earlier and was wondering what to do with them. This is a great idea, and they do flow with the album well.
Looking back at this album, I still am a little disappointed with it, mostly because I had really high standards for it which I know I shouldn't have done. I was thinking it was going to be one of my favorites of the year but it's barely in my top 5. Still a really good, solid album, just not something I constantly want to hear.

For me its definitely top 5, probably at the 3 or 4 spot right now. But the year is only half over and there should be some more great ones on the way (see: Animal Collective).
Everything Jack White turns to gold. It's def. gonna be in my top 5 this year (possibly number 1). I dig I'm Shakin' a lot.

LOVE this album! Hypocritical Kiss is amazing on the album, but unfortunately, did not translate very well to the live show at Roseland. However, Sixteen Saltines was as spicy as it gets! JW3 is a genius!
Because it IS so predictable and sounds like tired White Stripes, imho, JW's album disqualifies itself for album of the year.
That said, my pick for album of the year thus far is the wonderfully vulnerable, sincere, accessible folk/spiritual album "Here" by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. Beautiful music, thought-provoking lyrics (vs. often nonsensical Jack White ramblings). Their recent Letterman appearance, and their 'flash mob'-esque rendition of "All Wash Away" randomly performed in Mexico are splendid examples available at YouTube.
