He's OK, better than I thought he'd be. Certainly not as funny as Peyton. I'm more looking forward to Will Ferrell next week and Mick Jagger on the season finale.

I thought he was pretty good. I chuckled a few times and with SNL the way it has been in recent years, that's hard to come by! Peyton's "United Way" commercial skit was definitely funnier than the "Little Brothers" one Eli did.
"Now YOU listen. When we are on this ship, you are to refer to me as 'Idiot' not 'You Captain'!"
I didn't think last nights show was funny at all. Eli just comes off as such a tool, and was not funny. That Cheech and Chong skit was just painful to watch. The show hasn't been good in a long time, I blame Seth Meyers. Seth is the absolute worst head writer the show has ever had. I don't understand why Lorne Michaels keeps him around. It seems the only time the show is remotely funny is when past cast members come back. I only hope Will Ferrel writes his own skits next week, and keeps that no talent Seth Meyers far away.
Tell the captain 'This boats not safe And we're drowning.'

People have been saying that for ages. Even when Tina Fey was head writer. And I think you are giving a little too much clout to the title of "Head Writer". Tina Fey once said that the title is pretty much honorary. There is still a staff of writers, and the cast which often write many of their own sketches. The Head Writer is basically the liaison between all the writers/cast and Lorne. At the end of the day it is Lorne who decides what gets on the air.

As a huge Eli and Giants fan, I am very happy with his performance.
As somebody who doesn't care too much for Eli, I was content with his performance as well. Was he great? No. But he did pretty good.
I never expect much when an athlete hosts SNL, they're notoriously bad going back to Fran Tarkenton in Season 2. Joe Montana and Wayne Gretzky are tied in my book for worst hosting job on SNL. A few have done OK, like Deion Sanders. But I can only think of one athlete who hit it out of the park, and that was Peyton. Unless you count The Rock as an athlete, because he's great on SNL.

Will Farrell will kill it,it's almost impossible that he couldn't! Watched the Will/Christopher Walken more cowbell skit for the hundredth time the other night....classic!

Michael Jordan had some really funny moments as SNL host. The skit with the Superfans and the one with Staurt Smalley - "Because I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and doggonit, people like me!"
I am not sure it was MJs acting ability, probably just good writing.

Yeah, he didn't fall on his face, but he didn't really shine. He was in some great sketches, but he wasn't what made them funny. The Superfans sketch was funny because of the Superfans. Michael was droning on about some charity while the Superfans were thinking about Da Bears, Ditka and Polish Sausage. The Stuart Smalley sketch was funny because of Al Franken, and telling MJ he didn't have to "throw the ball into the basket good" to be a good person. He didn't really add much to the episode, but he did manage not to screw it up and get out of the way so the actual performers could be funny, which is sometimes a good thing.
Edit: I almost forgot the best part of the Superfans sketch. Chris Farley in the grass skirt doing the dance.

On the topic of athletes hosting SNL, it is amazing how few baseball players have hosted. Jeter and Dion Sanders are the only 2 MLB players that I can remember hosting.

i wonder if any hockey players have hosted SNL. If there was one it was probably Gretszky.

Host: Wayne Gretzky
Musical Guest: Fine Young Cannibals
For some reason this episode was actually released on VHS back in the day, and I owned it, so I know it well. It's seriously bad. Wayne looks so out of his element and uncomfortable. I think he would have been more comfortable watching a porno with his grandmother than hosting SNL.
