at dawn
i see it in her eyes
it takes me by surprise
and i believe her, again

with light
i see the ugly lines
drawn in sand, over time
until the sea hides them, again

at night
the creature comes alive
it rises and then dies
knowing it will breathe, again

at dawn
all will be forgotten
the lies that we've been caught in
hide 'til dark comes back, again
