This is a really big bummer. Very few artists can really say that they paved the way for so many people to follow, and he is one of them.

    RIP MCA.

So sad. The Beasties were a huge part of my life when i was growing up, i was lucky enough to see them in Glasgow in '99 and i'll never forget it. I'm actually watching 'Awesome i fuckin shot that' as i type.

Hopefully people will take a minute to find out what the guy was all about and that can be part of his legacy as well as the amazing music he was part of.

    RIP MCA you'll be missed

I am truly saddened by the death of MCA. I have always been a big fan of the Beasties. My heart goes out to his family especially Mike D and Ad Rock. Those guys are truly brothers from other mothers. RIP Adam Yauch. You will be missed.

Damn, this is the saddest news. I can't remember a time when I haven't listened to the Beastie Boys, they just always seem to have been there.

The first 7" single I ever bought was No Sleep Til Brooklyn in 1987, I was 10 years old and I still have it. At the time it was just a fun song and they'd been in the news because of the riot on their UK tour so it felt more rebellious to be listening to them than to the metal that I loved at the time. I didn't think for a second that I'd still love them 25 years later.

My first cassette that I ever got was Licensed to Ill. Legendary.

In 2008 my wife and I went to a "Get Out the Vote" show that they headlined. The first act of the night was Ben Harper and R7. The crowd clapped and cheered at the end of each song, but was pretty chill for the most part. Tenacious D played next, followed by a short set by David Crosby and Gram Nash. Again, the crowd was attentive and appreciatve of both acts, but nothing to rowdy. Finally the Beasties came on to close out the show. Within' 30 seconds of the first song starting, the whole place was bouncing! Every person in the building was jumping, they were doing the three man weave on stage, taking turns on the mic...they tore the place up! I always said after that, if I could afford to hire any band in the world to play my birthday party, it would be the Beastie Boys. Most fun I've ever had at a show.

The final song from that night...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNR4PDj5_8g

So glad now that we got a chance to see them and still can't believe that MCA is gone. Gone, but most definitely, not forgotten. Time to bust out the Brass Monkey y'all!

    RIP Adam.

They were always a band I wanted to listen to but never got around to it. I will say that "Sabotage" is one of the greatest songs and videos I've ever heard/seen.

They had some of the best videos ever.

Wonder if what Mike D and Ad Rock are gonna do? You can't really replace him, IMO. Are they gonna do solo albums?

RIP. So, so sad. Not too into hip hop myself but always loved the Beastie Boys. So talented and an undeniable influence on music. 3 white Jewish kids from New York-I can relate! MCA seemed like a hell of a guy, too. He'll most definitely be missed.

It's so weird, it still hasn't sunk in yet, it just seemed like he was going to live a long time because the Beasties were always like still cool kids because of their music style.

I had the pleasure of meeting him before they hit it big... My brother knew Ad Rock... Great sense of humor and could drink anyone under the table...

He really seemed to change and became a beautiful human being...
    Huge fan... Sad ...
