Read the article and make of it what you will... Sad state of affairs. The reaction when a Republican does anything to even support a gay man having a role in government, the likelihood that the fact that he was gay was a political move in and of itself, the failure of that move... Lots to discuss I'd say.
I'm curious as to what these "pro-family" folks actually want... Would they like all gay people to not have jobs or what?? Do they actually want to marginalize them in society as functioning educated people or what? I just don't get it. To the "pro-family" camp: drop dead indeed.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata

i have never heard a single republican politician come out in support of gay marriage or any other pro-gay legislation. if they do it is the end of their career.
it is like they want them to go away and live in the closet again.
there is a time that we are a society are going to stand up and say "this is bullshit what these republicans think of gay people and we are not going to stand for it anymore!!!" a vote for obama would certainly be a "forward" vote on that front, whereas a vote for romney would be a lateral move or a regressive one...
"Well, you tell him that I don't talk to suckas."
To be fair... Marriage Equality wouldn't have passed if it wasn't for the support of a handful of Republicans. But the retribution from the party was swift and malicious. They were attacked and maligned and hundreds of thousands of dollars were raised to beat them in primaries.
There are the odd Republicans here and there who don't have negative attitudes about the GLBT community but more do... and that ranges from an open dislike to yes... outright hate.
If you think I'm wrong, all you have to do is look at how the GOP has traditionally gotten their followers to the Polls. They put an anti-gay measure on the ballot and when Republicans show up in droves to vote for it, they may as well check the other Republican candidates. Proving that they hate us more than they like themselves.
At no point was there really any pushback from republicans at all on that. Rick Santorum would say that allowing us to have sex in the privacy of our own homes was so horrifying that it was like allowing us the right to rape kids. And the response from most republicans varied from quietly shrugging and saying "oh uncle Rick" to people donating thousands of dollars to him.
So saying that reublicans hate gay people is not a generalization. It's pretty accurate.
Romney knew he had zero chance against the army of hopefuls that will run in four years. This was his only chance for another 8 or 12. So he went for it. But at the moment, the Republican party have become so tooth-gnashingly insane that to appeal to even the moderates, he had to promise to end health care women, had to promise to arrest women for having miscarriages and had to promise to teach teenagers that thinking of sex would make their gonads fall off.
And he was still the most moderate one.
You're right. He's become his base.
