Finally was able to load the Weber Legacy 10's in my 2x10 Avatar Cabinet (closed back). This cabinet was originally loaded with Celestion G10s (80th anniversary). Those speakers were descent but I always thought with what I play through amp wise (Phathead Classic 6, which is a blackface, 5E3 based amp, and a Modded Valve Junior) that the lows were a bit to muddy, and didn't really have the mid punch that I shoot for.

The Webers really tightened up the low ends, and gave me a gorgeous punch, and added some creaminess to it. I'm really impressed. If any of you like 10" speakers its definitely something to look into.

Here are some links

You have to click on Legacy on the left, and 10"

I do have two G10's for sale. I'll end up putting them on ebay in a week or two.

Reasonable option to take a slight bit of the high end off a Princeton Reverb?

Sounds like it'll keep the good stuff I like about the Princeton in the lows.

Legacy's are a copy of vintage Celestion's. With a smaller voice coil. It sounded good with the Phathead. But they break up a little early, but the Princeton won't be pushing it that hard. I believe (don't quote me) these are the original design for scumbacks, until they had the falling out with Weber and moved everything in house.

Open back will help it breath a little bit too...

I'd be interested in hearing like a Chicago Series CTC 10" in that (from Weber). They are 25 watt and have the 1 1/2" voice coil with paper former...

I definitely don't want any earlier breakup than the Jensen I have in there now gives me. I like the headroom I've got now. I just want to mellow it out ever so slightly.

Take a soldering iron and burn a small (dime-sized) hole in the cone, about a half-inch from the dust cone. :corn:

Will post this idea on gear page to make sure.
  • Switch to a coiled guitar cable. Those will take the highs out some.

Nice, I'm being serious about trying a coiled guitar cable...

Well, I sort of derailed it and also thought it was more fun being poked. :corn:
