EV RSD in Greece

I made the terrible mistake of using UPS to send Dimitris the EV RSD I picked up for him. Sent it to him as fast as UPS could get it there, and they got it there before they said they would. Unfortunately, the Greek gov't, in some vain attempt to solve their debt crisis, are trying to charge D ALOT of money, 40xmore than the RSD cost me in the first place!! For me to have it released back to me, it will cost me upwards of $320.00!!!

So, it appears that one of the 1,500 EV RSDs will be sitting in a customs office from now until...??? Maybe it will end up like the Ark in some warehouse, waiting for TOP MEN to play it?? Maybe someday, it will be auctioned off??

Dimitris, I will get you an EV RSD, I promise.

I need a beer.

Cheers,
Barger :fp:

What value did you put on the Customs tag? Think $40 is a limit in EU to go through without customs and tax. I use UPS a lot but I'll stay below that. As a gift and $30 in value should work fine in Greece to.

There you have it. I know it's hard to know this things when shipping from US to EU, but because he wrote Value to $100 you have to pay tax and customs to get it. It's the same in Sweden. When I purchase on ebay from outside EU I always ask if they can change/set the value to below $30, if they cant I'll ask another seller.

dont forget i didnt pay for the item..was a gift..and most important,i dont trust ups that they told me the truth..
they could write this by them selfs..they are thieves..
and even if not..i should pay only for customs and vat 40$..
they want 210$ extra for them...

the more i hear about these international shipping stories the more it further reinforces my refusal to send anything out the US. Even Canada.... takes 3 fucking weeks to get a letter there. terrible. And maybe on e reason this country isn;t so bad after all. :corn:

UPS is a nightmare. Their brokerage and administration fees are astronomical - avoid them at all cost.

Otherwise, if a shipper does his/her homework and pays for the correct postage with the proper services attached (tracking, delivery confirmation, insurance, signature) and documents the contents correctly there should never be an issue shipping from the States to Canada or elsewhere (and vice versa).

    Just my $0.02

I do not remember giving UPS that $100 value, but lesson learned. As this was my first international shipping effort, I failed. Oh well. Guess this is what "Brown" CANNOT do for me. Some things you just have to learn the hard way.

As I promised D, I will get him his EV RSD.

I'm gonna pour myself a Sam Adams Alpine Spring, or 6, and move forward.

Thanks for all the support, knowledge, and criticism, as I will take it all to heart, and head.

Oh no! That stinks, Barger. :(

What happens if Dimi just refuses to accept the package, doesn't it get returned to you automatically? Is it at that point where they will try and claim $320 from you? That just doesn't sound right to me.
