Just heard it...well the end of it...Bono joined them.

It was a super extended version and they changed the words to include 'Make Poverty History'...

Bono did alot of singing...but the boys sounded great!

    'make poverty history'

wonder if ed had to agree to those words before he could get bono on stage.

  • Wow what a great version, cant wait get hold of a copy of that!
  • Oh. My. God.

"write it on your t-shirt, write it on your heart"

    Who wrote those lyrics!?

    I blame Bono.

It's great to see PJ at an event like that though :D

  • Yeah that was great. But talk about cheese from Bono. Ed could have come up with lyrics 100 times better than that. Should have given Mike a solo too. Matt was on fire as usuall. But yeah was pretty good otherwise.
  • Great performance, it's hard to fully enjoy it though because i've never liked Bono.

It's a great cause though, glad they took time out to do it. Mike should've been allowed one solo though instead of The Edge!

Mike had the first solo I believe.

  • I think tis fantastic that people such as pearl jam and u2 use their "fame" to stand up for what they believe in and encourage others to do the same.

I think its great that they want to help make the world a better place for everyone.

And the addition to the lyrics was well placed and seemed to suit the song :)
And I listen for the voice inside my head. Nothing. I'll do this one myself.

"Pearl Jam ......U2 we offer you ....U Jam?" Man that Bono gets corny sometimes......

I swear that may be the first time I have ever seen Mike sing into a Microphone.
    ~!~ Peace ~!~ Love ~!~ Pearl Jam ~!~

    That was very surprising!

That would have been perfect without Bono.

Ah. I thought it was me and my dodgy memory. He looked like a pro though!

    U Jam. Ouch.

I also disliked the fact that on that Herald website it said Pearl Jam fronted by Bono or something along those lines.

Can't help thinking it may have been nicer if PJ had done RITFW on their own and U2 had done something on their own. They could have changed the lyrics for Sunday Bloody Sunday to Thursday Happy Thursday:

I cant believe the news today
Oh, I wont close my eyes and make it go away
    How long...
How long shall we sing this song?
    How long? how long...

cause tonight...we can be as one
    Tonight...

No more bottles under childrens feet
Or Bodies strewn across the dead end street
So let us heed the battle call
    Poverty can be
    Poverty can be history

    Thursday, happy Thursday
    Thursday, happy Thursday
    (allright lets go!)

You know, let them mess with their OWN lyrics :D

It was the edge. Ironic that 3rd best guitar player on the stage was taking the solos. PJ doesn't have near the ego of Bono and the Edge and I am sure happily let them lead.
  • Mike's been singing the Hallelujah's with Jeff since at least the Euro tour.

Ed called it their "new church".

Mike always sings along with RITFW. Always has. Watch the MTV music awards way back in 94 or 95 when they played with Neil Young the first time. He sang then too.
We're still making records for people who listen to it all the way through, eyes closed, in that space.

How about Bono's ego gets a little bigger. A late enterance on stage, that was so lame.
How can Eddie not think that Bono is just a big joke who is only out for his own career advancement.
Yes it is nice that these people take the time out to promote stuff like ending poverty etc. etc. but Bono definately tries to exploit it as much as he can. Probably because U2 hasn't written a good song in over 15 years.
"write it on your t-shirt, write it on your heart"
what the hell does that even mean. I'm glad Eddie didn't sing those lame ass lyrics.

That was a fantastic performance by ALL!!!

I try and avoid this place as much as possible 'cause there's way too much negativity. A lot of whining etc... what happened to a sense of humour? I thought U Jam was hilarious. Two great singers on the same stage... I just wish I coulda been there. Loved the whole thing.

    Peace
