Soundgarden Announce ‘Classic Albums Selection’ Box Set

By Fernando Scoczynski Filho

With Soundgarden‘s forthcoming new LP looming on the horizon, the band are looking back with a special box set re-release of part of their catalog: Soundgarden – Classic Albums Selection.

As XFM reports, the box set will include the following records: 1989’s Louder Than Love, 1991’s Badmotorfinger, 1994’s Superunknown, 1996′s Down on the Upside, and the 2011-released Live On I-5. All the albums will come packaged in mini-LP gatefold wallets, with their accompanying booklets. In addition, the release will feature new artwork from Josh Graham, who had already worked with the band in the past, via the weird-ass Telephantasm cover.

Soundgarden – Classic Albums Collection will be available on May 21st. Soungarden’s new song Live to Rise debuted earlier this month, but didn’t exactly impress us. Starting in May, the band will tour across Europe.

Just repress the vinyl individually. I don't need an over-priced box set of some stuff I already have.

Looks like this is only being released in Europe.

Based on this saying "Mini LP" in the description, you can bet it's a CD box set. :(

It's a shame it doesn't include Ultramega OK or the Screaming Life and Fopp EPs, it would have been a nicer box set if eveything was in there

Did anyone here get round to buying this? I just saw a copy in JB HiFi in Sydney and noticed that they've spelled Superunknown wrong on the spine! Apparently it's now SUPERUKNOWN!

And people think spelling Seattle wrong on a jacket is bad, surely getting your own album name wrong is worse!

  • Haha yeah, Kim Thayil picked up on this in a recent interview. Not exactly the band's fault, I imagine the label put a load of intern monkeys on projects like this that they don't deem "important", though I suppose the band should have at least checked the artwork. It reminded me of how Nirvana are treated these days, their Facebook page and other online marketing seems to be run by teenagers.
