Well it's a great album for the summer. Not much to get you down on backspacer, you can play it all the way through without encountering a low unlike the other abums that include some truly raw emotional songs, plus theres hardly any anger- no leash, why go, blood types ect. it's just quite energising and uplifting, as an album, it works well, but rank the songs against the other in the Pj back catalogue and they might not come out as anyones all time favourites but .... I like backspacer. LOVE Supersonic, ATW & Got some.

maybe you're not playing it loud enough....
Sometimes I speak of nothing at all.

Still listen to it a lot :D
I think its a solid rock album,a little bit sober in the experimental way but the next one will be that way as they said before...

The new song from the Pj20 movie sounds great if thats the way they choose it to be :D

yes, sometimes, all PJ albums are great ! But it is far from 5 or 6 first albums ... Backspacer is too "easy", too pop, too product, too short, ...
5 or 6 first are, "dark", "experimental", innovative, crazy, not for an public, ... masterpieces !!!
PJ, take your time, enjoy yourself ... this is all you need ...
I love Riot Act and Avocado too ... but it's a bit like Backspacer ...

Yes, I still listen to it quite a lot! I carry an extra copy in my purse (CD not vinyl-purse isn't quite big enough for that! )

Force of Nature is my favorite on BS, but there really isn't a single song that I dislike. BS was the album that was currently out when I discovered PJ, so it holds a special place in my heart.

I'd probably agree with this. I enjoyed it in 2009 and seeing the songs live but I think by PJ standards it's very weak. It was the record they wanted to make and good for them for doing what they believe in. It's just not really for me anymore. Someday it may find a place in my heart again but I knew it was a bad sign when I started skipping any songs off it when I listened to boots.

Force of Nature used to do nothing for me but the other day I heard it through headphones and it sounded great. That's one surprising thing I've found about Backspacer, though the songs have a sense of immedicay I still find I'm discovery the songs. I seem to have a new favourite every few months.

I do. There isn't a PJ album I don't listen to. The range of PJ's discography is unequaled by no other artist or group on the planet when measured by the scope of songs they have created. They wanted to be like Zeppelin from the beginning, I think they accomplished that & then some, & I adore Zeppelin. No matter my mood, there is a PJ album which suits it, Backspacer makes me happy & appreciative of my life.
During Mike's radio interview, he mentioned there was a dozen songs left over from the last album & two or three they brought back to the table to work on for the new one coming, I can't wait to hear! 8-)

I still like it. I like the second half a lot more though..from Just Breathe to the end. The first few tracks haven't aged well for me.

i have it on vinyl & cd. i spin the record every once in a while, but have remixed the cd to make it better for me.
    gonna see my friend
    got some
    the fixer

    just breathe
    amongst the waves
    unthought known
    supersonic
    force of nature

    ole'
    of the earth
i generally like the album, but it is my least favorite, hence the remixing. the end depresses the shit out of of me as does speed of sound. i enjoy the upbeat tone of the rest of the record. i could probably add golden state & santa cruz & make it a tad longer. i think i just might. my top 3 are vitalogy, binaural & riot act, then it varies on my moods from that point. "avacado" made a stronger impression on me after listening to the torino boot (9/19/06-full album performance). it would be cool to see them do that with their entire catalog at various points. i do like the BS songs better live. i can't wait to hear the next record. i'm looking forward to the more "experimental" pj again. so,yes, i do still listen to it, albeit in a remixed cd. it's amazing how quickly the album was recorded & they wanted it to be shorter, like the records of the 70's were. unthought known, the fixer & just breathe i think will be staples of their setlists for a while, i think. it would be cool to hear a wishlist-unthought medley, too.

listened to it yesterday, it was sunny, 70 degrees, I was outside working on the camper...made the time go by pretty fast, or the album is really short.

Eh, it's okay, but definitely not my favorite. Just a little too poppy for me.

Poppy??? Where is supersonic, just breathe, Johnny guitar, the end, atw, SOS, fon, gsmf, where are any of them poppy. Such a bad choice of word. Just my opinion. Not trying to be a d&%$

Um, Just Breathe is maybe the poppiest song Pearl Jam have ever done, not counting Last Kiss.

Maybe the OP meant poppy in production sound, almost total lack of guitar solos, etc. The Fixer is very poppy (know that wasn't in your list, but it is). I mean, it is their most poppy sounding album. It's not Riot Act. The End has cheesy string section on it... that is what pop ballads have. Speed of Sound is "poppy" when you compare it to the original demo, which sounded a lot less like someone driving a boat in a 20 year old movie (I can't remember who said that on here a few years ago, but the visual stuck with me ever since I read it).

I don't listen to Backspacer too much, yet 3 of the songs have still made it into my Top 25 Most Played on my ipod/itunes... Got Some, Johnny Guitar, and Force of Nature. Those are the 3 best songs to me, and ATWaves is OK too, and Unthought Known has grown on me over the last few years.... maybe the only song to do so over that period of time. Overall I still consider Backspacer to be my least favorite PJ record, but that doesn't mean it's their worst, it's just my least favorite.
