Agaetis Byrjun or Takk for albums but if you can find Heima on DVD go that route. Its one of highest rated documentaries on IMDB.

OK get Heima dvd....this shows every nuance of what makes sigur ros one of the most special acts on the planet. Stunning.

As for studio albums....for me Takk is the best album ever released. What I mean by that, is from first note to last, it flows, its inspires, it takes you on a journey. Its a collection that played right through is as close to perfection as Ive ever heard.

    Trust me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • get (). its a thing of beauty. Ive heard good things about the upcoming new album that its the best since (), which is very good news indeed.

() is one of the best albums of the decade, one of the best albums of all time. Stunning album. No album title. No song titles. No lyrics. Just about 7 syllabels repeated throughout a near 80 minute album. So pretty.

The other one i'd check out is Ágætis byrjun. You could also check out Jonsi's solo album Go Do. And his collab with his boyfriend called RiceBoy Sleeps.

() is one of those once in a lifetime albums. Sigur Ros is like Explosions in the Sky. They paint the sky. They soundtrack your highest highs and lowest lows, often within the same song. Theres something spiritual about the music, even though i dont think either band intended that.
  • i also echo the person posting above. The Heima documentary is gorgeous. one of my favorite documentaries of all time. The icelandic scenery along with the songs is so surreal.

I usually recommend ( ) as a first album for folks and yes Heima is beyond beautiful

I've yet to see Inni and I was at one of the shows it covers. Has anyone seen it?
So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?

    Takk

Amazing record. I played it once when I was driving one winter and the snow started to come down. Perfection.

Yep, I'll third (). Great album.

You can get it later, but Jonsi's "Go" album is a must get too. And the tour for Go - Nothing short of spectacular.
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

I saw Inni in theaters earlier this year. It was beautiful! So serene and pretty. You should definitely check it out.

Prepare to be very enlightened!! I love Sigur Ros very dearly and just to add to what others said about the DVD, it is a truly amazing concept and piece of art best viewed alone with the lights out, sound up or with headphones and a nice bottle of red.... :D

start with Ágætis byrjun and work chronologically (Ágætis -> ( ) -> Takk -> Með suð...). they have a record before Ágætis, but it's not really essential for an introduction.
