If someone were to ask me what music means to me, I could just point them to this video. Sums it right up.

I just posted this on FB as well!

I want to watch the whole documentary now. Twice a month I spend time at a home with Alzheimer's patients and I truly believe things like music and the arts stimulate our minds beyond belief.

Music creates reactions in the most primal parts of our brains, I think that's pretty cool. 8-)

Knowing my luck it would be a Tears for Fears song ... upon which I would mercifully beg for my death.

Well, it's in the wrong forum.

Anyway, pretty awesome. When I start going senile I will be sure to tell my family to plug me into my mp3 player when I've completely lost it.

I caught this video last week; simply beautiful and touching.

I'll never tire of learning about the brain - how it processes, adjusts, retains. Simply amazing.

(Oliver Sacks' book, The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat, is a fascinating read about the brain and the mind)

who gives a fluck about which forum it belongs it

so you're saying it would get more attention in a forum where less people visit?

It's just that people go into The Porch for PJ news and to talk about PJ, so probably their interest wouldn't be directed towards something not related to PJ. When people are in All Encompassing, they are interested in non-PJ-related posts. Seems reasonable to me! Are you okay today Pillow Pants? You seem a little cranky. ;)

I totally get this. Before my Mom died from Alzheimer's I used to play for her and she'd smile, tap her foot a little and for a few moments everything was good in her world. I played at her memorial service and that was really hard because (besides the obvious) I felt very self-conscious about playing to a crowd but as soon as I started playing everything and everyone fell from my senses and was just me, Mom and the music.

Thanks for posting this. It's so true. Music is life.
