i don't know enough to form an opinion on these developments but it looks like the U.S and Britian may have a new ally in Asia. seems like a positive direction for this country. What do you guys think.

From what I've been reading and understand, the government of Myanmar is open to reform in the country and it seems like the military rule in the country is slowly dying. Aung San Suu Kyi's pro-democracy party's wins in the election was a good first step for the country.

I guess if countries like the United States and Britain see that Myanmar is serious about reforms in the country, they'll lift sanctions they put on the country because of their human rights violations.

I think that we should stay away from there before we desecrate Myanmar like we did Iraq at the cost of the tax payer dollar, civilan life, and American Soldier life all for the interest of "Democracy"

At least, I hope that doesn't happen.

I've had two people close to me visit Myanmar recently and both had wonderful things to say about this small country. Not all is good, of course. There is still much poverty and many area are still riddled with dangerous land mines. But I'm told many positive things are happening there and there are many natural sites worth seeing as well as beautiful temples.

I can't help but wonder, though, does this mean that great Boston band, Mission of Burma, will change their name to Mission of Myanmar? Somehow that just doesn't have the same ring to it. :D
