Front row? That is pure greatness. My sister claims she got backstage and met Bowie once (her friend is a concert promoter), but I'd rather be up front for a show than meet him. I just wouldn't know what to say.

Me neither. Whatever came out of my mouth would be atrociously embarrassing and not at all indicative of how important he is to me

I don't even get YouTube at work. I had to go on my phone just to check what you posted. Aw well, thankfully I'm here to cover for ya.

I listened to Bowie's debut ablum, Hunky Dory and Reality today thanks to this thread. My recommendation of Hunky Dory still stands.

"Absolute Beginners" is also a great song!

my DB fav song of all time... Paris Theatre best version ever, got the 7" 3 years ago... don't know why it took me so long...

by the way, shitty video, and I never saw that movie, never had the chance... I recently started watching The Hunger, I only watched 15 minutes, more or less, I got really bored, haven't finished it...

never seen the looking for water video, when I saw the link posted, I realised that those were images from the Never get old video pasted with some other rare footage...

The movie Absolute Beginners is even worse than the video (BORING! and he's barely in it) so you're not missing anything. The Hunger is pretty good, but definitely not for everyone's taste. The Man Who Fell to Earth = Fantastic. Labyrinth (my favorite movie, yes seriously) is amazingly '80's. ;)

I wasn't a big fan of the Man Who Fell to Earth. Maybe it's because I had such high hopes going in, but it just couldn't hold my interest fully. Labyrinth, however, is one of the best muppet-based movies ever.

I don't think I ever watched The Man Who Fell to Earth, I watched a movie with a similar name starred by Jeff Bridges, who characterized an alien who had difficulties in speaking English... but nothing to do with DB... The man who fell to earth might have a different name in Spanish, you wouldn't imagine how ridiculous are some translation of title movies, though I don't remember seeing any other movie appearance by DB, except the ones mentioned, plus Zoolander and The Prestige...

    The Prestige...
Loved that movie even before he appeared as Nikolai Tesla!
He also plays Andy Warhol in Basquiat and Pontius Pilate in the Last Temptation of Christ.

yeah, I watched those too... I loved Basquiat, both his art and the Julian Schnabel movie...

Folks... a little late to the thread... let me proudly introduce "Panic in Detroit" as the finest DB song spun from his mind.

Brilliance. Can never tire of this song.

I neglected to mention this earlier: yesterday I discovered that Bowie's Reality album has a PJ connection. Matt Chamberlain drums on two tracks. I can't believe I never knew that. I'm glad I did a wikipedia search while listening to it.

One of my first purchases upon getting a new place will be a record player. After that, I'm getting Ziggy Stardust on vinyl.

I love Basquiat, so underrated. He is a really good actor most of the time.
