Hi all,
I’m in a bit of a bind and need some help. I was supposed to come up with a list of songs and such that would be applicable for a wedding. I’m sure there are tones of these in the forums but I just don’t have the time to scour the thousands of threads. Work is just too busy which is why I’m in this situation to begin with!
Any recommendations or suggestions are very welcome and appreciated!
Thanks

Dispatch's Carry You would be a great one!
Songs that everyone young and old can enjoy. Classy yet fun.
I feel like people fill their wedding playlists with crap nobody knows, with ensuing awkward moments. It's peoples right (being their wedding and all) to choose whatever they want, but I've always felt like you gotta have fun classy songs that most people know and can dance to.
Cant go wrong with standards like 'Fly Me To The Moon' or something like that. If both bride & groom share some musical tastes things are much easier. Imagine it would be very tough for the choices if everything was different.
For the actual reception I would say come up with a list of 10 songs that you both like and would want to hear. Give to the DJ. Spend time speaking with your DJ or whomever is playing the tunes and allow them to pick party favorites.
I had one rule in this regard -- no 'Tiny Dancer' 'Heart with Go On' or 'Macarena' or the groom was going to kick ass.
If all else fails, you can play PJ tunes throughout.
i was at a wedding shortly after the album came out, and i was very disappointed that the dj did not have this record. make sure you do.

And are you going to be playing the recordings? Or is there going to be a cover band, pianist, or what?

bit corny... but i love it
yup. we gave our DJ a list of specific songs that we wanted to hear & told him to throw in some wedding standards as well. he didn't listen. after hearing his selections for about an hour, i went over & talked to him. then, he finally changed up the playlist.

If I wasn't married I'd ask you to marry me
To answer a couple of questions, there will be a DJ and we have set-up a on-line registry of sorts where people can submit requests for songs to be played. We have veto power over this list and will be providing the DJ with a specific lists of NO's (i.e. macarena etc..)
What I am in the process of doing (thanks to all of the help) is putting together music for the ceremony and reception. At the ceremony we will have a friend playing a couple of acoustic numbers (instrumental) during the dull points and then have the DJ play a really lively fun rock song as we walk down the aisle. For the reception some general background music is going to be played.
Once again thanks for the input!!
Guessing the avatar is a picture of her pounding wine!
I also like Bruce Springsteen's "All That Heaven Will Allow".

Ahh, I see!
Lol, poor guy!
I liked having a bunch of Sinatra and big band stuff during our cocktail hour.
And for some reason, Neil Diamond was a big hit at some point.
Romantic with an edge...
"You and Me, we're in this together now,
Nothing can stop us now
We will make it thru somehow"
"You and Me
If the world shall break in two
Untill the very end of me
Untill the very end of you"
"The further I fall, I'm beside you
As lost as I get, I will find you
The deeper the wound, I'm inside you
Forever and ever
I am apart of You"...
I had slayer at my wedding dance, old metallica too
