Good video.
I'm not economic expert but this sounds like a good reason to live in a community that has a chance of working out a viable local economy.
I told my wife about this video and my thoughts about local economy and she showed me this cool article:

tbh it is greatly over simplifying the problem. and by only focusing on the U.S. when there are many other countries in the world in debt for wildly differing reasons is a big mistake in terms of explaining a possible global collapse .
Not trying to fear-monger... but, I whole-heatedly agree, Brian. A self-sufficient local economy would be a huge safety-net if this scenario was to ever play out.
The question is - would neighbors stick to the pact if things got really bad. But, that's for another thread.

Ha. Of course, it's a slight over-simplification. That said, it pretty much summarizes aptly the fear out there. I think it was pretty straight-forward that this was focusing on the US. But, you're right there are a large number of countries in similar debt situations for varied reasons, making this potential scenario all the more ---- real.
Remember - This video focuses on the US and the US is the country who's economic downturn caused a worldwide recession. That's not to say the next downturn, can't begin elsewhere... say... the EU, for example. But, this video really focused on the US problems in that framework.

It's an oversimplification, but I would wager that the majority of voters in the US and around the world are not even apprised of this oversimplification. We've grown up with a false sense of entitlement while being blissfuly indifferent to the financial realities of our global economy. It's only now that we're seeing some of the negative consequences of globalization that we are starting to freak out.
Excellent question, inlet, and one well worth pursuing. I will say here I hope that is possible. Looking at AMT I think, man, there have been some heated discussions on the train and and yet here we are. If were were in a physical community and push came to shove, I would hope- despite all our differences- we could find a way to stick together.
Good thread, man.
