Dr. John's new album "Locked Down" dropped yesterday. Produced by Dan Auerbach of Black Keys fame, the album marks a return to the unique musical style the good Doctor developed at the beginning of his solo career in conjunction with his "Night Tripper" character. I've made it about halfway through the disc so far (playing it in the car), and it truly kicks ass. I encourage all Dr. John fans to check this out. I also encourage all Black Keys fans to check it out and spread the word about the Doctor. As a lifelong fan, I never thought he got the recognition he deserves, and hopefully this collaboration will introduce him to a new young audience.

I'm generally a fan of legends teaming up with newer artists on projects like these. Jack White did an excellent job on Loretta Lynn's Van Lear Rose. Will Sheff of Okkervil River did a similar turn recently on Roky Erickson's True Love Cast Out All Evil, which was amazing. Jeff Tweedy's on a real roll of late, particularly with Mavis Staples' You Are Not Alone.
LUCKY!!!

Imagine Gris-Gris combined with the Black Keys, and that's the new album.
I love the new Mavis Staples album with Tweedy. I'll have to check out those others.
Also, Ryan Adams and the Cardinals teamed up with Willie Nelson for the "Songbird" album...check it out if you haven't already!
Plan is to see that Thursday, Bodies exhibit & Springsteen Friday, Mets/Brave and Rangers/Caps Saturday, Knicks/Bulls Sunday. My poor bank account.
Can't wait to see Dr. John and Dan though, should be a sweet show and at an old theatre in Brooklyn. Saw the Keys a month ago in Portland, ME. Oh, and Bruce won't be bad either.
This new Dr. John album is really, really good! I can't stop listening to God Sure's God.
