Quite a few songs are very Pete Francis-inspired, you could tell, and while I love PF, some of them seem a little too mellow for Dispatch. Still think it's a great effort though...Not Messin' Around definitely my fave on the disc. Less than a month til the Chicago shows!
My friend is a huge Dispatch fan (we are going to DC and Boston) and he was bummed when they broke up. However, for me it was the best thing ever as I am a huge State Radio Fan (seeing 5 shows this fall). That being said, I think I like SR better because it's all Chad's direction and when I listen to Dispatch I find myself mostly listening to Chad's songs. Either way new music from both equals me being happy.
You know, I keep meaning to get into State Radio. I've heard quite a bit of their stuff and I really like it, but I feel like I haven't given them a proper listen...if that makes any sense. Chad is definitely brilliant...the next time they come through Chicago I'm going to have to check them out. I've seen Pete live before, and that was a great show. He was signing autographs and stuff afterwards too, totally cool guy!WI '98, WI '99 (EV), WI '00, Chgo '00, MO '00, Champaign '03, Chgo '03, WI '03, IN '03, MI '04, Chgo '06:N1 & 2, WI '06, Chgo '07, Chgo '08 (EV:N1), Chgo '09:N1 & 2, Chgo '11 (EV:N1), WI '11:N1 & 2, Philly '12, Wrigley '13, Pitt '13, Buff '13, Detroit '14, MKE '14, Wrigley '16: N1 & N2, Seattle '18 N2, Wrigley '18: N1 & N2, Fenway '18 N1, STL '22, St Paul '23 N2, Chgo '23: N1 & N2, Wrigley '24 N1 & 20 -

If you want slow and quiet I recommend SImmerkane 1 or Live at Brattle Theatre. If you want fast and loud I recommend Live at the Boston Pavilion or the DC bootleg. The Barn sessions is also awesome. Ironically, a Pete's song (Two coins) got me into Dispatch as this hippie guy in Key West covered it and my friend recognized it. But now I can't get enough of Chad's music. His solo shows are similar to Eddie's as he covers alot of the same material.Springfield 4/6/94, Boston 4/6/94, Hartford 10/2/96, New York 9/11/98, Hartford 9/13/98, Mansfield 8/30/00, Boston 9/28/04, Reading 10/1/04, Quebec City 9/20/05, Boston 5/24/06, Hartford 5/13/06, New York 6/25/08, Hartford 6/27/08 Philadelphia 10/31/09, Hartford 10/15/10,

I'll check out the Boston and DC live shows, thanks! I find myself favoring Chad's Dispatch songs as well, so I'm sure I'll love SR. I'm a huge fan of Pete's albums Untold and So They Say, after that he kind of lost me a bit. You are on spot on about Pete going to much the "poppy" route. Chad is so talented and basically keeps reinventing himself. On a personal note, he is from MA and went to school where my sister in law teaches. He is such a down to earth guy and really does not display any "rock star" status. He has the art teacher at the school do the posters for his concerts and when I am saw him at Tupelo Hall, the entire audience was basically his family and friends. He.who.forgets is right, Us Against the Crown is in my opinion their best studio album.Springfield 4/6/94, Boston 4/6/94, Hartford 10/2/96, New York 9/11/98, Hartford 9/13/98, Mansfield 8/30/00, Boston 9/28/04, Reading 10/1/04, Quebec City 9/20/05, Boston 5/24/06, Hartford 5/13/06, New York 6/25/08, Hartford 6/27/08 Philadelphia 10/31/09, Hartford 10/15/10,

On another note, I always laugh when people say Pearl Jam are "sells out" by providing their music to big businesses such Budweiser, Oracle or whatever to either promote their music or make money. Chad Stokes is the farthest thing from a "sell out" as he was living in his parents basement after Dispatch broke up and he just started State Radio. He basically donates all of his money to his CAC charity. But I was watching a Kaymen Hot dog commercial and I heard SR's songs Right Me up and Sybil and I thought to myself "are people now going to say Chad is a sell out"? Plus their song Keepsake is basically on every major tv network (Cold Case, Hawaii 5-0, Season finale of Weeds). My logic is, get your music out there anyway you can and if you sponsors want to pay you then it's a double win for the fan and band.Springfield 4/6/94, Boston 4/6/94, Hartford 10/2/96, New York 9/11/98, Hartford 9/13/98, Mansfield 8/30/00, Boston 9/28/04, Reading 10/1/04, Quebec City 9/20/05, Boston 5/24/06, Hartford 5/13/06, New York 6/25/08, Hartford 6/27/08 Philadelphia 10/31/09, Hartford 10/15/10,

Just back from Missoula and looking forward to Dispatch on Saturday in Boston, Ben Harper on Sunday in Noho and Dispatch again on Thursday in D.C. Then at the end of the month I have Chad solo and State Radio back to back for the annual Halloween shows in Noho. Wow!! What an awesome month for you!! I've never seen State Radio...I need to get on that. The show last night was sooo awesome! They really had a nice mixture of old faves with stuff from the new record. Circles Around the Sun live is really awesome, as was Josephine and Sign of the Times. Before the encore it was Flying Circles into Elias...what a killer combo! Everyone in the venue was singing at the top of their lungs. Bats in the Belfry is always fun....I have to be honest that I don't like the way Pete sings Bullet Holes live, but otherwise it was a GREAT show!WI '98, WI '99 (EV), WI '00, Chgo '00, MO '00, Champaign '03, Chgo '03, WI '03, IN '03, MI '04, Chgo '06:N1 & 2, WI '06, Chgo '07, Chgo '08 (EV:N1), Chgo '09:N1 & 2, Chgo '11 (EV:N1), WI '11:N1 & 2, Philly '12, Wrigley '13, Pitt '13, Buff '13, Detroit '14, MKE '14, Wrigley '16: N1 & N2, Seattle '18 N2, Wrigley '18: N1 & N2, Fenway '18 N1, STL '22, St Paul '23 N2, Chgo '23: N1 & N2, Wrigley '24 N1 & 20 -

first, dlymnfld, that is one HELLUVA month! And Mamasan, stoked to hear the 'Spatch show was fun (but how could it not be, right?). You have GOT to catch SR one of these days. I saw them a few years ago in a 300 capacity club here in Jax and it's one of my favorite shows I've ever been to.We were but stones your light made us stars0 -
Dispatch at the DAR was phenomenal. What a great venue. PJ there must of been great. State Radio album drops tomorrow (like album much better that Dispatch's new one). State Radio and Chad this weekend in Northampton. No PJ withdrawal with all of this Chad Stokes music around. That's awesome!!!'Patch shows are always so much fun!! So the new SR is better than Circles Around the Sun? I'll have to pick it up. It took me quite a few listens to really get into Circles...it's just so much different than old Dispatch, you know? Have a great time this weekend!

The song reminds me of Knights of Bostonia but I think the song Take Cover is actually playing at the beginning when she is watching the tv. That being said, I think Big Man is the best song on the album. You can watch him play a bunch of the songs acoustic on the State Radio site which was recorded at the Moboogie Loft in Denver. So I saw State Radio back to back nights in Northampton. First night was acoustic and the second night was electric. They also had the lead singer from RX Bandits (Matt Embree) on lead guitar both nights. Was awesome hearing some (not many) of the same songs each night as they were different versions. Even though the acoustic show was more intimate as it was at a bar (Iron Horse), the second night was ridiculous. They were so heavy and they opened up with Mansin Humanity which basically has a long intro which reminds me of Release. They also let everyone on stage who had on a costume for the last encore (CIA/Zombie by the Cranberries). The entire weekend benefited their charity and included a 5k run and petition for same sex marriage. I have to say these guys are starting to rival PJ as my favorite band. So much energy and good vibes.Springfield 4/6/94, Boston 4/6/94, Hartford 10/2/96, New York 9/11/98, Hartford 9/13/98, Mansfield 8/30/00, Boston 9/28/04, Reading 10/1/04, Quebec City 9/20/05, Boston 5/24/06, Hartford 5/13/06, New York 6/25/08, Hartford 6/27/08 Philadelphia 10/31/09, Hartford 10/15/10,

Wow, that is so super cool. And you know that they are passionate about these charities. I've never seen people more involved in their communities and raising money for the causes they back! Well, I just finished up going to NYC and Boston State Radio charity shows. They were all different and equally memorable but on Saturday night after the HOB show my friends and I were able to go to the after show party and hang out and drink with the band. Chad was only there for about an hour as he had his baby in a baby bjorn with him (he wasn't drinking). But Chuck Fay and Mad dog hung out the entire night and I was able to speak with them for awhile. Safe to say that if you are not in an A-list band, you better have a full time job. Both do and said that playing in SR is just a "part time" job.
