    I don't know if that is true, in my eyes Santorum is playing farther right than Romney
    to get that vote. I think those people who don't want homosexuality this visible
    in society but are not necessarily far right could take this example and lean towards the GOP
    vote, independent or otherwise. Why I saw this as unifying in a way....
    not defeating.

    Personally I see Independents often leaning one way or the other naturally due to core beliefs
    or pertaining to central issues of importance to them.
    They just don't fit in the party box perfectly so they can't buy into red or blue.
