Police helicopter scrambled to catch foursome spotted engaging in sexual activity at seaside beauty spot (at least one was wearing handcuffs already)

A major manhunt was launched after police received reports of a foursome engaging in sexual activity near a seaside beauty spot. A local resident tipped off police and said that four people had been having sex in public, an act known as 'dogging'. One of the suspects was reportedly wearing handcuffs during the incident at the Byes, a park, in Sidmouth, Devon, which is a favourite for dog walkers and its peaceful riverside walk.
The police helicopter was scrambled, which cost £1,600 an hour to keep in the air, hovered overhead before police eventually tracked down a 20-year-old man, from Sidmouth, and a 28-year-old man from Plymouth, Devon. They were arrested on Monday, on suspicion of escaping lawful custody and committing an act outraging public decency. Both the men were released on police bail and are due to return in April.
A female from Exeter was also arrested but no action will be taken against her. The second woman remains at large. A police spokesman said: 'They ran off when we arrived and so we had the helicopter assist us.
The four suspects managed to give police the slip but three were later caught after the police helicopter was launched. It was suggested that one of them was wearing handcuffs but none of the three had them on at the time of arrest.
Chairman of the Sidmouth Town Council Stuart Hughes told the Telegraph that a new seaside attraction, the Interpretation Centre, had become a magnet for that type of behaviour. He said: 'We've had reports of people getting naked and using the [open] showers next door.'
