Now that I'm old enough to have disposable income of my own to spend on what ever I want(the kids are grown so to hell with them  ) I want to start picking up some PJ collectables, but have no idea where to start, and I'm nrevous about getting ripped off....Do you folks have a goto web site or something that lists items with what prices should be?

Best advice is whatever your buying be patient and look around for the best prices....use the A+ sellers list on this message boards....it people u can trust....but ask around before u buy if u feel u are being ripped off!!! Good luck and happy collecting! Better not start cause its hard to stop!!! Expresso beans for posters.....pjcollectors.com is a nice site for authenticity....and I can't think of the vinyl pricing spot....ill get back on that

There are a few holiday singles in the Goods section right now. You just have to pay shipping. Good place to start.

    Don't start!! :mrgreen::mrgreen:

I generally spend some time watching eBay listings to see what they go for, you just have to resist not bidding on them. At the end of the day, you pay what it's worth it to you. I normally have an upper limit for anything I want, and it's not always based on the market price.

Also good to pay attention to what people sell stuff here for. People often sell for less than on eBay (not always).

It depends on how much you want to spend, and how much you are willing to spend for a specific item, take into account what you like apart from music, there isn't a exact science, a how to, or a collector's guide... you can buy vinyl, garment, posters, books, etc., if you are ok with the cds and your ipod, there's no need for vinyl, but you can buy a few for reasonable prices here, or somewhere else, if you like things being colourful and your house to be well decorated, there are lots of colourful posters still available here... regarding tees, they don't necessarily have to be from here, if you like the tee, buy it... but in the end, it is completely up to you, based on what you like and what would work for you...
... I am not in the business of being liked anymore ...

So what is everyone thinking about the Benaroya Limited Vinyl that's up on Ebay right now? Is it fishy?

I emailed the seller, as I see he's in Lethbridge, and he says he'll do local pickup… You're closer than me, so it might be worth it to go check it out…

    Best. Advice. EVER.

After telling a buddy of mine about some recent purchases I made, he asked me if I had my paycheck directly deposited to Pearl Jam. I laughed at first, but then ... hey ... not a bad idea ... :?

Best advice I have, which others here have said, is take your time. Figure out what you want and go for it. I find it helps to stick to what means something to you personally rather than go whole-hog. Like, I only get posters and whatnot of shows I actually attended.

It is very much like an addiction, though ... so be careful and always use protection! :P

Stay away. Forget you thought about colecting. The posters will make you broke and the vinyl will make you do things you never thought possible :o

    Stay far away.

  • Ebay is a good place to start but be patient and do some research - Ten Club is also a good place to start.

Good Luck - but BEWARE - PJ Collecting is VERY addictive! It becomes an obsession very quickly!

What sort of items are you in the market for? Even with all the disposable income in the world you'd want to narrow your parameters so you get the most bang for your buck, regardless of the item and cost. You might have your eye on something rare that's reasonably priced but if you have your heart set on displaying it but aren't able to (as an example) your regret will diminish the item's appeal. Or perhaps you're after some rare and very expensive items that are currently overvalued, in which case you're better off waiting several months or even several weeks (in some cases that's all it takes) for prices to come back down.

First and foremost: ask yourself where you want to start? Setlists? Posters? Vinyl? Signed memorabilia? Guitar picks? Etc. There are PLENTY of respected collectors, traders, and sellers both here and elsewhere that you can be put in contact with or that can contact you once you narrow down your "must haves". This saves everyone involved both time and effort as (personally speaking) you can honestly invest your heart and soul into a deal and when it doesn't transpire you're left annoyed that you've wasted your time.

Good luck and feel free to ask as many questions as you'd like.

yeah, I am not into posters, I have a few, not these posters, others, the ones you get from magazines, then, at the beginning of the past decade I bought some at record stores, and that was it... I've been a member since 2006, but I started spending time here last September... I'm still not into posters, but since January, everthing was about PJ posters, and I learnt a lot about them, the artists, framing, collectibles, trading, and so on... not into posters but I bought three of them already... and I thought I was doomed by collecting vinyl...

    Welcome to the madness!!! :)

Well here @ the Lost Dogs forum is your first stop for PJ goodies sold by fans for fans. The 10club store is great. So is Amazon. eBay is too but be sure to read all the info & details before pulling that trigger to buy. If you got questions on any PJ goodies, just email 10club and they will help you out or even post your questions here on a certain item. Keep an eye out on Santos L. Halper's posts over @ the Porch. If there's a way to get email notifications when he starts threads on PJ goodies go up for sale, try to get on that notice, stat!!

    All the best!!

I've already ordered a few things from 10c & one of your fellow nice members on here has offered to send me a few items to get me started......to prob turn me into an addict like the rest of you I suppose  ...But now with the rescheduling of EV shows the collecting might go on the back burner for a bit as I am determined to do whatever it takes(well almost) to get to the shows in Vegas..... :D

Just buy things that are meaningful to you and skip those that are not.

If I saw a 1996 EV Guitar, I'd probably pass even if I could afford it comfortably. It means nothing to me; however, others would kill for such an item for some other reason. The flip is the KC poster; it's not my favorite image, but the concert was special to me, so I value the poster more than others.

If you think you're investing... Well, good luck.

Definitely not thinking of it as investing really,I'll just buy shit cuz I like it! If anything it will be money that I won't see again because I don't plan on flipping it,just admiring it :D

4 Golden rules of PJ collecting.
Rule #1 Only collect things you like. If you buy something and the value goes down, it won't matter.
Rule #2 Try and get the stuff yourself, it has much more meaning and you will never, ever part with it.
Rule #3 Research expensive stuff, there are fakes out there.
Rule #4 Have fun and don't go overboard.

Maybe somebody mentioned this. If you are sure on something that you want, put an ISO ( in search of) on here. You may get multiple offers, you may get none. You can then decide what offer to take. People on here are pretty reasonable, some are damn right generous! Good luck.
