So I was watching the film We Bought A Zoo last night, and somehow I managed to hone in on a song being played in the background that sounded like it had a cool kind of vibe, turns out the song is called Living With The Law by Chris Whitley, and I'm kind of floored by it:

I don't know how I hadn't heard his music before, I have vague recollections of Myles Kennedy mentioning him as an influence in an interview some time back.....sad to hear that he passed away a few years back, fucking cancer.

He was truly amazing. Saw him several times in small clubs. Fucking unreal. He was absolutely ridiculous live. I also met him a couple times and he couldn't have been nicer. One of my favorite artists ever.

I've watched some live videos, even right before he died he still sounded amazing.
  • I had to research this guy in 2010. Greg Dulli did an acoustic tour and played a cover I didn't recognize in Belfast; a cover which he didn't introduce to the audience. I googled the first line of the first verse, and the fella, Chris Whitley, his name came up. The song is called 'Cool Wooden Crosses'. Crackin' tune. His Wikipedia entry is quite thorough, too.

Now that I need to hear - I'm a massive Dulli fan.
  • Leave it with me. I'll dig up the song from my recording of the show.

I really like Dirt Floor, it's pretty stripped down stuff but really cool.

His daughter Trixie Whitley is a singer too, she has an outrageously good voice:

I keep thinking if she turned up on a show like The Voice she would absolutely wipe the floor with the competition.
