Start at the beginning with "This Business Of Art". I saw them open up for Uncle Neil once and thought they were great. Haven't overly dug their last couple of albums, but they have a great sound.
How apropos, I'm currently listening to Sainthood. As this is my only T&S record (for now), I can say it was a good place to start. The song arrangements are stellar. From what I can tell, many fans think The Con is their best record.
(I have to make a small correction to Travelar's post - their first record is "Under Feet Like Ours", not "This Business of Art".)

I've been digging female singers a lot lately---Regina Spektor, She and Him, Fiona Apple, The Pretenders, etc...

Portishead, Mazzy Star

Thanks for that catch. It happens to the best of us. I still consider it a stellar record that gets good rotation.
