Does anyone else have Breath as his/her favorite song?

This song has been my favorite since I heard it the first time back in ‘98, when I run into this weird bootleg called Patriots which had rare live versions of PJ and Ministry songs (it even had Just a Girl!). I think it’s one of the most underated PJ songs. I wonder why it doesn’t get played live that much. To me it’s like an explosión of freedom (oh see the woooooorld!)

I also wonder why they didn’t include it on Ten. Fortunately, they did put it in the Deluxe version.

I fuckin’ love this song, does anybody else out do too?
If I knew where it was, I would take you there.

Breath is certainly my favorite song of theirs... so many things to love... rebellion, freedom, exploration of the world, and a relentless optimism... so many things that I associate with, and esp. in my youth when PJ was first becoming popular... and I mean, the song freaking rocks! - - solo, lyrics, all of it awesome... I also wonder why this song doesnt get more love or attention... live, or in fan discussions... one of the older tracks that in my opinion is what Pearl Jam is all about...

  • So hard to pick a favourite, but if I had to, it would definitely be this song. It tells of not only stepping out on the literal porch, but on your mental porch. Sometimes we get so stuck in our situations, as they are here in THIS place, in THIS time. To realize that a problem may be felt differently if you left your current space, physically and then mentally, is incredibly liberating. Like our friend above said, rebel - get out - see the world! You don't need to stay stuck 'inside'. In many ways, this song saved me. Beyond the lyrics, in my mind, few songs rival the rawness and explosive passion in Eddie's voice here (Breath and a Scream version) - as though baring his naked soul to you, you know that Eddie felt every word in the core of his being.
Most incredible musician of all time.

I love love this song! I wanted so bad to hear it again at PJ20 and when they played it, I could hardly contain myself. :)
The first time I heard it, in 2003 at Alpine I remember every minute of as well.

Nice to hear other people love this song too. Lucky you that got to hear it live, and twice! Me, I've only been to one PJ show in my life, last November in my country, Costa Rica, and knew I had little chances to hear there; they didn't play it.

Breath is definitely my favorite song.

I didn't realize it for awhile. People would always ask what my favorite song is and I would say that I couldn't choose... But then everytime Breath came on... Eventually I realized that it was my favorite song.

    I really like the lyrics,
"Oh, if I knew where it was I would take you there but there's much more
    than this.
Ooh. Whoa, much more than this. Woh see the world. Much more than..."

And then McCready's solo just explodes my brain everytime...

This is unbelieveably a brilliant song. They don't play it cause it sounds too much like other songs. It's like the brick laying song to two other songs on TEN. But there was a campagn in 1998 to make them play it, and one the third nite in the third different city, the jammers made PJ play it :-) Power to the People!

I think this song is sexy--is that bad?
"Wind in my hair, I feel part of everywhere..."

  • I'm a little late here but I love this song! On my top ten for sure
  • Such a great song! I don't know where I'd put it on my list, but it's up there. Last year as C'ville getting Breath & SOLAT back to back was freakin awesome!!
Hey 10C, how about a 10" colored vinyl 45rpm of these two songs?!?!

"We were but stones, ...Your light made us stars"

  • I've been a fan of this song ever since It was released on 'Singles'.

1st heard it live in Hartford '98, and then 12 shows later in Denver, 2014........ My wife had no idea why I was so excited to hear it last month, she's not familiar with it.

& yes, it's easily one of my favorite PJ tunes....... I could never rank them all, but this would be top ten for sure.
