Just realized there's no thread for Pantera yet! :o

So I know this is a shot in the dark and that Vinnie Paul kinda puts down the idea of a reunion...but it's still possible (with ZAKK WYLDE!!!)

Holy shit if there's ever a chance of a Pantera reunion my head will explode with excitement!

Honestly I think Pantera ran their course. I love them, and pull out their albums all the time, but I don't want a reunion without Dimebag.

I'd rather see Zakk do his own thing and Phil do his own. If they wanna play together, that'd be cool too. But Pantera was over long before the tragedy that befell Dime. I say let it lie, do a cover or two, but don't bring back Pantera.

If I had seen them live when Dime was alive, then I'd probably agree with you both. But I never got to, and if there would be anyone I would prefer to step in Dime's shadow it'd definitely be Zakk.

I'm not saying I wouldn't buy tickets, but something about just wouldn't feel right. I'm sure it'd be one hell of a show.

I've seen Pantera roughly 8 or 9 times while Dime was alive. They were absolutely AMAZING!!! The power and confidence behind thier music was impressive. I have since seen Damageplan (when Dime was alive) Hellyeah and Down. Nothing compares to Pantera and it should NOT tried to be replicated. I saw Down in Des Moines roughly 5 or 6 months ago and Phil was very good but I am not sure he could take it up to the level he would need to so that it felt like a Pantera show. I say leave well enough alone. As much as I love Pantera, an attempt at a reunion of sorts would seem like an opportunity to make a buck. Just my two cents.

But, admittedly, I would probably go to the show.....

I'm glad I got to see them live when Dime was alive. They were one of the few metal bands that I really liked. It was one hell of a show.

I saw them a few times also back in the day, and i must say they were one of the most powerfull live bands i've seen, i remember standing in the hall, and the power of the music made my body vibrate, and i actually thought my insides were going to explode.... anyone who saw them, will know what i'm on about. :D

Same here. Zakk is probably as accomplished guitar player as Dimebag was. If anyone could do Dime justice it would be him.

I do agree with this. If they want to do it then Zakk would be the perfect person to take Dime's spot. That's much better than having some American Idol person taking over. But still, I would be surprised if Phil is actually down for this idea.

so I'm guessing Vinnie is talking with Phil Again? I'm assuming so, if the idea of a reunion is being talked about.

Agreed! Saw Zakk at Soundwave and his mind-melting solo that seemed to go forever! used to listen to 'walk' everyday on the way to work, got me all psyched for the day!

The rumor mill says that they're on speaking terms again, but there's no proof of it yet. I'm trying to stay positive :)

Saw them a few times starting in '96. One of the best openings to a concert I've ever seen. The show started with a track of Suicide Note PT1 playing while a screen covered the stage. Once the song was finished the screen dropped and they started in on PT2. Blew my fucking mind! Here's a video of it. Not a great quality but it gives you an idea (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdsPwcjBY5U).

A reunion doesn't interest me much. While the idea of Zakk playing with them has some appeal, I don't know how I would feel them labeling themselves as Pantera. It just isn't the same without Dime.

I stand by this 100%. I really appreciate Pantera too, but the thought of them reuniting without Dimebag is just not acceptable to me personally.

I don't think it makes much sense to tour as Pantera without Dimebag. Don't have any personal reasons, just think he seems pretty irreplaceable in the Pantera pantheon.

I never really listened to much Pantera, but I don't really think Wylde would be a great fit. He's probably the obvious choice given his chops and relationship with Dime but I don't think their styles are really that close overall.

Not bad, but I can see why it was unreleased. It kind of felt like you could replace the vocals with those from Cowboys From Hell and they would fit perfectly. It's good, but not as unique as their catalogue gets.
  • great to see a Pantera thread on here, but a reunion with Zakk would be weaksauce. Like others have said Pantera had kind of run its course once Reinventing the Steel came out. My first concert ever was Pantera with Anthrax, Coal Chamber, and Anal Cunt opening. Top 5 concert of my life. Glad I got to see them 4 times before it all ended. RIP Dime.

I spent many nights during my late teens, wasted, with Pantera's home vids playin on the tube...we did our best to live the black tooth lifestyle :D... shit, watching that brought back some good memories! I cant see any part of those vids without remembering that infected cut that dude had on his ass from jumping on that photocopier  I don't even want to look for the clip. Squeezing puss like toothpaste. fack.
Caught them live on the Trendkill tour with White Zombie. Insanity! Phil ripped on Metallica for like 10 minutes ....was not long after Load came out....
I missed the Far Beyond Driven show (Prong joined the lineup, w/Seps and Biohazard for leg I'd have seen them on) when the car I was in broke down 8 hours into the 11 hour road trip we took to the closest show they played. To this day, I don't think I've ever been that disappointed.
Actually, the die-hard Pantera guys I partied and travelled to the shows with have became friends with Zakk in the years since (and, coincidentally - Evan from Biohazard)....so from my perspective...that reunion lineup has serious potential. :)
I assume it's not happening it if it's been this long since the rumours started?
