I love this band but am on the fence with their new album. It has that "over produced" feel to it. I bet it will be better live. Anyone else have thoughts?

Just picked it up today for a trip I am taking tomorrow. Hopefully its still a solid album, but if not I bought Florence + the Machine: Ceremonials, Middle Brother, Dawes: Nothing is Wrong, and Bruce: Wrecking Ball. Something tells me I have some alternatives if Delta disappoints.

After a few listens, I like it. It's not my favorite album by them, but there are some real solid tracks on there.

Sweet. I will definitely be busting it out on the plane. The band is a combination of Dawes, Delta Spirit, and Deer Tick right?

I just saw them last Wednesday in Minneapolis. The new album plays so killer live. I should have never doubted it! I really have a hard time picking out what album is better, Ode to Sunshine or History from Below. THey are both great.

I have thought this same thing listening to it recently. I have tickets to see them in December and I'm really pumped up about the show, but I'm still, as you say, on the fence with the album as well.

Are you seeing them on their tour?

Great! Have have heard Dr. Dog's material translates much better live vs. studio albums, which can't be a bad thing.

They arnt coming to Minnesota, so no. But I did see them right after the album came out. It's better live for sure. They are a great band live, though, so that shouldn;t be a surprise. The album has grown on me after hearing it live, but the songs they didn't play still have that feeling of over produced. I know thats what they were going for but I prefer their more rootsy rock stomp feel. Matt is a hell of a singer.

And I have no idea about Dr. Dog.

Delta Spirit and Dr. Dog both killed it last night. I was very impressed by both bands! Delta was the opener and primarily played newer material, but I could definitely see them putting on a great show as a headliner. Dr. Dog, who I was very unfamiliar with, was amazing. They put on a really fun live show.

Definitely hit either of the up if you get the chance.

Nice, I thought Delta Spirit was good opening for MMJ last year and Dr. Dog may have put on the best show in a year where I also see MMJ, Wilco and PJ. They were just amazing. If you haven't already, I highly suggest checking out their 3 most recent albums.
