Hey boys and girls.

A few years back i read somewhere Eddies interpretation of a book that he loved very much and made him think different about people. That everyone have a plan and such.. He got respect for people in another way and so on.. cant recall.

Have any of you any ideas.

I thought it could be Daniel Quinn's - Ishmael?

But on second thought im not so sure.

Would love to sort this out as i feel an urgent need to read it!

  • The band did pass around the book Ishmael by Quinn. It's an interesting read that shows a broad, anthropologic view to some issues. I believe it inspired Evolution and some other songs, but I can't be sure.

Yes. It's Ishmael. From Yield (album) wikipedia: Several songs on the album were inspired by literary works, including Mikhail Bulgakov's novel The Master and Margarita ("Pilate"), Daniel Quinn's novel Ishmael ("Do the Evolution") and the writings of Charles Bukowski ("In Hiding").

I have read the two first and by Bukowski the Factorum (1975) and Tales of Ordinary Madness (1983).
I strongly recommend you to read all of them, but in that order: 1) Ishmael, 2) Factorum, 3) Tales of Ordinary Madness and 4) The Master and Margarita.

I first recommend you to read the most interesting in my humble opinion and then continue until finally read something that I didn't enjoy so much (The Master and Margarita). But that's just my opinion.

Today, I ordered Dan W. Deluca's The Old Leather Man (http://pearljam.com/archives/3/November-2009/18407). Please let me give it a read and I'll let you know what I think of it as soon as possible.

I finished Dan W. Deluca's The Old Leather Man today. I have to admit that it is a very interesting and still undergoing research project undertaken by Mr. Deluca. It's a very well written book with many folklore elements that will intrigue any researcher/reader and some Pearl Jam references in there too. I'm so glad that paid close attention to Mr. Vedder's recommendation and purchased this book. This monsieur never fails with his music, book or movie recommendations. I also loved some names of the towns through which the Leather Man walked at one time:

    CONNECTICUT
    1) Wigville
    2) Polkville
    3) Forestville
    4) Plainville
    5) Litchfield
    6) Shailerville
    7) Tylerville
    8) Orange

    NEW YORK
    9) Mt. Pleasant
    10) Loyola
