My dad is a HUGE swing band fan..... His fave has always been Count Basie... I love it too thanks to him.

I have Atomic on vinyl which i "borrowed" about 20 years ago.... Although I think its more 50's here is an example..

When my Dad and I used to drive in the car listening to it he always used to tap the gear stick, his wedding ring clicked on the gear stick in time with the music... I'd just be sat there in a world of music I was just lovin' :D

sitting here doing my work I listened to both the songs posted...
    a couple times thanks!

What an era the 60's were, the lyrics to What's Going On still relative today,
a timeless classic like many during that decade.
Marvin Gaye ... a favorite of my sister's ... can picture her dancing to that

Count Basie awesome! was a favorite of my fathers also.
Listening to that was very comforting and the piano amazing...
    my father played
I need to get some big band for Friday fun nights :D

here's another I saw last night and it was pretty funky cool!
this little lady ... her voice amazing

    Cow Cow Boogie ...
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9AfqVIxEzg
Ella Mae Morse ... that era innocent but sexy the voices and style ...
    much innuendo 8-)

and what was that about loco weed

I often think how much I would have loved to live in those days... then I remember the whole place had been ripped up by war.. and I would probably have been fighting in it!

I love when I meet people of all ages that really appreciate music ...
the decades that have lead to where we are today
and those open to many styles of music.

I find all the different styles to fit the many moods, arouse different emotions
    and memories.

This kind of love of music is the one greatest gift my parents gave to me :D

I'm with you guys, but it seems like whenever I post about listening to music or going to a show that doesn't involve rock music, I end up defending myself. I'm afraid to post things sometime because I don't want to get slammed

Anyway, with that said, PBS just played a new American Masters about Cab Calloway, which was really interesting and worth checking out.. ;)

Fear not ... you are a music lover not a lover of one kind of music.
I pity the slammer really  Cause a music lover experiences so much more.

I know! And not all pop sucks ass either! There is good and bad, you just have to be able to tell the difference. I didn't like rap at all until I started listening to Kanye. I get it now, he's an ass but he knows it at least, and his music is soooo good. Understood, my friend.

I love Peggy Lee. She had the coolest voice. "Is That All there Is?" is my favorite song of hers, and PJ Harvey (who also has the coolest voice) does a great cover of it.

Big Band, swing, and ragtime always remind me of my grandma....Even in her 80's, she loved to throw an LP on her console stereo, then try to get me to dance with her around her living room....always puts a smile on my face to listen to this music. :)
