Ok, have went the smartphone route w/ mobile hotspot so I can have internet on the road. I am finding in some areas that it fades in and out even when there is a strong cell signal?

What causes this? is it my provider "slowing" things down or what? Get's very frustrating to be waiting for pages to load etc...

  • It probably based on the number of people using the same hotspot at the same time. That's the problem with shared wifi

Is someone using their laptop from your hotspot on your phone? Maybe another trucker at the stop is doing a search and connecting to you?

its the wpk### deal. I have it secured, I think. Just been using my # as the password. I think I'll change that. But there will be times when it fades out. I look at the phone and I'm(my laptop) the only device connected to it.

Don't know then. Your laptop? Maybe you could stop somewhere with free WiFi and see if your computer performs the same way there.

use wireless at home with now issue other than an older wireless router that acts up and may need changed out. Otherwise when I'm on wifi anywhere else there are no issues.

don't tell me you are paying 30 bucks a month for that feature....

pdanet...do it....trust me. one time fee. works great, i use it all the time no issues.

or root your phone on and put on a free wifi app...depending on your phone, there are some one click root apps out there. let me know your model and i'll see if i can dig something up for you.

anyways...it could be a server issue, an issue with that cell tower, maybe it's getting a ton use by people at that time. i assume you are dealing with 3g data. from what i've seen, 3g speeds seem to vary widely based on where you are at. 4g is where it is at.

not sure how much data you get, but if it is limited, keep an eye on it. i believe there are apps that will do that.

last month, i used about 6.5gigs of data on my phone.

LG Enlighten. 4g just isnt widespread enough to justify getting it. it would just revert to picking up 3g signal. At leats to my understanding. Many of the truck stops I shut down at are outside of smaller cities or towns.
For instance. right now I'm about 15 miles east of Allentown Pa.

Besides, I get a discount through my work at close to 20% off. so really , I'm not exactly paying for it. Plus I get to write the expense off of next years taxes. But look around. Seems you have a lot of time on your hands at work!!!:lol:

looks like rooting that phone is low on the developers list

but still, look into pdanet. one time payment, and from there, all you need to do is connect your phone via a usb port on your laptop, turn on the software, and surf away.

i've said it before, we don't have home interent....we only have phone interent and we use pdanet to connect the pc to the phone for pc internet access.
