Wilco are playing a show here in Zurich next Wednesday (at a venue PJ played back in 1992 I think). Now I don't know them at all, but have read some good stuff about them. Now I'm in doubt whether or not I should go to the show (tickets are pretty steep at roughly 60 bucks)... What are everyone's opinions on this? Do they put on a good show? Any song recommendations that I should go listen to on the tubes? Any advice is welcome! :)

They are great live, but if you don't know any of the songs it may be hard to enjoy them.

they have 8 albums so its hard for me to pick out just a few songs.

I'll let others make the song suggestons, but if you listen to some of their stuf and like it you should go see them as their live show is a lot of fun

Maybe start with Kicking Television. It's a live album.

Yes, they're amazing live. Check out a dvd Ashes of the American Flags, you used to get an audio link along with the dvd. It has a good chunk of the live material they still play. Or as someone else mentioned Kicking Television, I was at those shows and Wilco bring it night in and night out.

with all due respect, this is one of the silliest questions i've heard in a long time.\\

ABSOLUTELY you should go. one of the best rock bands on the planet. just stand in front of the left side of the stage and (funny i say that considering i've never managed the left side at a wilco show) be prepared to be mesmerized.

    ENJOY!

i'll make this easy for you....

follow this link. download the show. there are a few more shows available from this link. they are all soundboard quality, and on par with or better than the official pearl jam bootlegs. so no need to fret about sound quality. it's crystal clear. these shows are from the most recent tour and include a variety of songs spanning their career including most songs off of the new album. this will give you a great idea of what to expect (from the music) at a wilco show. the rest...you gotta attend the show to see what it's all about, but i promise you it's a trip worth taking.

From what I've heard so far on YouTube, I'm definitely tending to go. And if I do, I'll make sure to try and make it to the front left.

And thanks for the download link, I'll give that show a listen!

I went with some friends who are fans. I hated it, it was boring, bland stuff.

However, everyone else seemed to enjoy it and the band sounded like they wanted to sound. I was bored to tears.

Guitarist is pretty good and they had some cool lights.

I knew it wouldn't be a popular opinion. But music is like that. My fave is your worst.

If you want to see some well put together tunes performed in pretty spot on fashion, go.

If you think it's gonna be an upbeat rock and roll celebration, don't.

I think the only people blown away by Wilco live are their hardcore fans.

I went in with pretty high expectations and while I enjoyed it and it was a great show, they didn't take that extra step to be on par with my other legendary shows.

Try to listen to some songs from their new album (The Whole Love) and some older ones (Yankee Hotel Foxtrot) to see if you like them. I think Wilco is a really great band and would definitely recommend seeing them.

Yes. Go. Go early and go often. They're a fine-tuned machine at this point in their careers and well worth seeing live.
