Anyone going to Nashville night 1? We've never been and I am interested to get your recommendations for places to begin our adventures and crush a cup or two.

I wish I was going, I love Head and the Heart. I will be up in Nashville on Thursday for the first time for the Mumford and Sons concert though, and will be there for a few days. I will definitely let you know some places to go. I have already heard to check out Legends Corner Bar which is right next to the Ryman from my parents, but I'm sure there are even better places to go lol.
  • Thanks. I didn't know Mumford and Sons were playing there so soon. Have fun.

Legends Corner is a nice honkytonk, but I'd also recommend Tootsie's (just a few doors down). The bar is legendary because it backs up against the backstage door of the Ryman, and in the Grand Ole Opry days, the musicians would pop into the bar between sets to have drinks.

Also, if you're a beer person, check out the Flying Saucer--it's up the hill a few blocks from the Ryman and the honkytonks, more around 10th or 12th and Broadway, but it's got a crazy assortment of beers and decent pub food. It's a chain, but they're only in a few cities, and Nashville is the first place I wound up at one. Definitely recommended.

Awesome, thanks for the suggestions. I'm definitely a big beer person and will check out Flying Saucer. I'll have to check out Tootsies too. Maybe I can run into Marcus, or Country Winston :P

Saw The Head & The Heart in Louisville last night, and it was fantastic. Sold-out show at a good-sized club, loads of enthusiasm from the crowd and the bands. The Head & The Heart were excellent, and their shock at the welcome they received in their first appearance here seemed genuine, but I'm in agreement with the above post--the openers are not to be missed. Black Girls, who were already on stage when we got there, were a lot of fun, and Drew Grow and the Pastors Wives had some moments of brilliance (mostly in the intense songs, less-so in the more laid-back sounds).

Two thumbs up overall! Can't wait to see H&H again in four months, when they return for the Forecastle Festival.
