I think it doesn't matter. Just use a debet card at an atm or credit card over here.

I was just at the bank yesterday exchanging some cash for my trip to eurpoe next week. the teller told me that i will get a better rate withdrawing cash from an atm in europe than what i exchanged for here. that said, i did exchange some started cash so am ready to go once i get off the plane in london.

    hope that helps! :)

Just take money out of an ATM (Geldautomat) when you get to Germany/Europe. Nuthead you do know the UK is not on the Euro right?
    PORTLAND - 18 JUL 98 // TAMPA - 12 AUG 00 // PORTLAND - 02 NOV 00 // SEATTLE - 05 NOV 00 // SEATTLE - 09 DEC 02
    BERN, SWITZERLAND - 13 SEP 06 // PORTLAND - 26 SEP 09 // CHICAGO - 19 JUL 13 // PORTLAND - 29 NOV 13
    CHICAGO - 20 AUG 16 // CHICAGO - 22 AUG 16 // PHOENIX - 09 MAY 22 // CHICAGO - 05 SEP 23 // CHICAGO - 07 SEP 23
  • I talked about this w/ my bank and they told me the same thing....they also suggested that I remember my original pin number if I were using a debit card, because that original pin number may be the only one that the atm's over in europe can read. So, if you don't remember the original pin that was given to you...you might want to find that out.

Just got back from Italy. The conversion will kill you. I stopped at an exchange place that is very common and received 55 Euro for $100. My hotel was able to give me 68 Euro for my $100, so that might be a better bet.

I did withdraw 100 Euro from an ATM and ultimately it cost me about $140 after conversion and bank fees.

Both my credit cards have a small conversion fee (2-3%) so even when you use a credit card you are still paying a little bit more.
