Trying to share an internet connection?

So, we are trying to share an internet connection with our neighbors (they know and are completely fine with it). Right now they have a fairly high router that is actually about two-hundred feet from our house. On our back porch we get complete reception from it. However, as soon as we step inside and close the door we lose it. So, we bought a range extender. Now, we have complete reception inside, but it says that is "cannot connect to (network name)." Sometimes it will connect, but perfomance varies and it often drops it. I am not very tech savvy, but since we are lowly grad students and internet is insanely high where I live this is the best option for us. Right now we have spent almost $300 on equipment. I am tired of trial and error. I know there are also outdoor antennas and antennas that plug directly into the computer. I would really appreciate some help setting this up and buying the correct equipment. Thank you in advance.

buy 200 ft of ether net cable and run it form their router to your house. buy a cheap router and plug the ether net cable in to it.
just be careful when mowing the yard. or bury it a couple of inchs below the surface.
