Brad vs The Black Keys

Dagnabit! I nearly double booked a show for the THIRD time this year -- rushed onto the website to score Brad Tickets at Cafe du Nord, and just then my friend was standing there and said, "Um, aren't we going to the black keys on May 4?"

Yes. Man, I wanna see Brad, but I had committed to go to the Black Keys.

Of course Eddie wins out over Coldplay....

And I was sure the Cub Scout Banquet last night was going to keep me from seeing Built to Spill at the Filmore last night -- NOPE! Caught the last hour! Got the poster!

But I really should get a better concert tracking system, someone mentioned "a calendar" would be handy for that?

Not sure how good Brad is live, but the Black Keys were pretty boring. I'll never consider myself a huge fan of theirs, but I was on a real Key's high at the time and they were so disappointing.

Nice. Got in the Cub Scout banquet and some great music. You chose well, Grasshopper.

This is not what I wanted to hear. I was skeptical about how their sound would translate to giant arenas but a friend of mine talked me into shelling out $100-some for a ticket.

I would see the Black Keys in a theater type of venue but never in an arena

This exactly. Just my opinion but the Black Keys doing an arena tour is not appealing at all.

I actually seen them at an outdoor place that supposedly holds around 7k, but it seems a little more intimate than that. I dunno if it was b/c the lack of any seating or what. We had a great view and they sounded good, but about the time the show got good it was over. This was last June on the US tour following the Aussie tour that got cancelled for exhaustion so maybe that had something to do with it. Most performances I've seen elsewhere seemed pretty similar to what they did there though. Saw MMJ at the same place a couple months later and it was pretty amazing.

The Black Keys are selling tickets at over $100? That is fucking ridiculous.

Crud.... I was so stoked about Brad, another wild confluence of my musical interests ... I'd be impressed if more than a handful of folks here know anything about David Sylvian, and WHAMO, there's Keith Lowe playing with STONE! Keith plays bass on one of my fav albums from the last five years or so - Nine Horses's "Snow Borne Sorrow." It was UK album of the year a few years ago, man, Keith is on my fav track too, The Librarian.

David Sylvian is an incredible vocalist, lyricist and musician -- his first band, Japan, was kinda new wave, ok, major new wav. But since then he's simply been OUT THERE. His solo work with Roger Fripp of King Crimson is amazing - Gone to Earth, oh my -- and then he starts into the ambient sound accidental music trip. Then he puts Japan back together for an amazing album, Rain Tree Crow, then back on his own, then Nine Horse (they refuse it seems to ever call themselves Japan again) .. but heck there's more than 20 musicians involved in the overall project!

David's control of his of pipes is simply second to none. He's not a belter and doesn't bring it, but he can do with a whisper of wind what few can...

It was just too much to see that Pearl Jam / Sylvian connection so I hadda to pull the trigger, and then, dang. Sounds like I'm headed the wrong way...

I hope Brad comes east, as I'd like to see them. Plus, I can get to see Stone be Stone on guitar. I'd probably take the Keys w/ Arctic Monkeys over Brad if in your dilemma. I already have tix to see the Keys w/ Arctic Monkeys in Portland, ME. Falls near the middle of my March Break. Nine days of skiing in Maine with some Matthew Good and Keys/Monkeys will be a-okay!

Black Keys, great studio recordings but too much of a hit or a miss live.
Like a book among the many on a shelf...

    Dublin 02 Arena - 22/6/10. Belfast Odyssey Arena - 23/6/10. London Hyde Park - 25/6/10. Berlin Wuhlheide - 30/6/10.
    Manchester MEN - 20/06/12. Manchester MEN - 21/06/12

I saw them in Quebec City last summer and thought they were great live, but they really need to play longer sets. Maybe I'm spoiled by PJ, Phish, Bruce, etc. but c'mon an hour to an hour and a half when you have about 6 records and covers to draw from. I will say, those two are some talented though!

Yep. Thank God my children eat nothing but macaroni & cheese.

But the face price is "only" somewhere around $75.

This is an excellent point. I'm still pissed at myself for skipping the Brad show last time they came thru town. I wasn't really that sick.

Wow, that must be according to venue because face value for the Portland, ME show was 49.50.

There are three tiers for the base ticket prices: $39, $49 and $59. But I was referring to the true price (including fees and taxes). The actual total price for our tickets is $69.77.

Still, was only $50 for BKs in Maine.

I've seen the keys 3 times, 2 in small clubs and once at summer fest. Their set avg around an hour twenty but they've always sounded great and had good energy, interested to see how they make the arena transition, got tix for march...and floor tix were 69 with service fees

Not the case up in Maine. One price of 45.00. Buy them at the box office and don't have to pay service fees. Plus, the show is all GA which is sweet. Venue hold 7000 max, which is pretty sweet considering the next night they are playing the Boston Garden which holds almost three times that much.

That is ridiculous!! Considering I just bought BK tickets and paid half of that for skybox seats.
