Lessons in Futility

Took one step off the beaten path
and ended up where I began
Where are you trying to go child?
Asked a frail and fragile man

Trying to find the meaning of life
The eternal search for the truth

To look for the truth
You must first go blind
You cannot see from these eyes
But by searching your own mind

To hear the truth feign deafness
Intentionally close your ears
You must hear the music in your soul
And expel your useless fears

Buddha said to end pain you must end desire
To find real riches you must not want at all
To speak the truth, forget your tongue
Your waxing spirit should make that call

As I tried each lesson to find the light
I felt warmth on the back of my head
I then realized two seconds too late
That I was already fucking dead
fuck 'em if they can't take a joke

"what a long, strange trip it's been"
